7 Springs Farm
We are currently looking for a short-term intern or couple.
Our farm is located in the heart of the Ozarks. We have 700 acres of beautiful rolling pastures and woods. We are truly grass farmers, as we are always working on improving our pasture management techniques to keep all of our livestock well fed on our pastures! The farm has been in our family since 1968 and we are the second generation to farm it.
We raise beef cattle, meat chickens, hogs, sheep and have laying hens, 2 milking cows, and several dogs and cats too! We also board retired horses for folks from across the country. This would be a great opportunity for people who want to spend more time with horses! Daily chores include feeding and watering all of the animals, checking on livestock in the pastures and moving them to a new field if needed, cleaning horse stalls, collecting eggs, and gardening. In addition to the chores, we always have a project or two going on. It can range from fencing, performing maintenance on farm equipment, putting up hay (both round and square bales), chopping firewood, garden work/prep, sustainably harvesting timber or working on a building projects on the farm. There’s always something to do on a farm!
We have had interns from 2 weeks to 2 years. This opportunity is geared for the person or couple that is really interested in learning how a true sustainable farm/homesteading operation runs. All the work it takes to get your food from farm to table, and more! Farming is hard work, but it is also very rewarding. We want you to enjoy your stay with us here on the farm as we love getting people exited about agriculture! If you like animals and working outside, then this is the place for you.
Expectations: We have a lot of projects we work on not to mention all of the daily chores. We work long hours, but there is always something new and exiting going on, and it is very fulfilling work! Basic expectations include working well with others, good communication skills, some heavy lifting (hay bales and feed sacks). This is a learning experience and you must be able to take direction, as we enjoy teaching people about agriculture we will show you how to do something 2-3 times and then we will want you to be able to do it on your own.
Accommodations include a 29-foot camper with a queen size bed and a bunk (just for our current intern or a couple), with your own kitchen and bathroom. The camper is furnished and also has basic kitchen utensils and cookware. Bedding & linens are provided.
We live in a small town and there is not a bus service, It would be best if you had your own car. We could arrange to pick you up at the local airport, but we do not provide a vehicle for use off the farm.
What to bring: Comfortable working shoes or boots, rubber boots, gloves, a sun hat, and season appropriate work clothes. We do not provide meals daily but will provide food for you to cook yourself as well as our farm eggs, fresh cows milk, and whatever produce is in season from the garden. We do enjoy having people over for dinner occasionally and having a glass of wine, talking about the day’s successes and what people are exited about learning next!
This is an unpaid internship opportunity on our sustainable farm, with a possible stipend depending on the situation.
