The Summer Ranch Intern – Fence Building & Repair is a hands-on, paid learning opportunity designed for individuals who are eager to gain experience in ranch infrastructure maintenance, particularly in fencing and land stewardship. This internship is ideal for those who enjoy physical outdoor work, problem-solving, and independent projects while contributing to the daily operations of a regenerative cattle ranch.
Interns will work closely with the ranch owners and team to build, repair, and maintain fencing essential to livestock management and land health. Fox Cattle Co. is committed to regenerative ranching practices, and fencing plays a crucial role in supporting adaptive multi-paddock grazing, livestock safety, and pasture management.
About Fox Cattle Co.
Fox Cattle Co. is a 4,500-acre working cattle ranch in east-central Saskatchewan. Our regenerative ranching system focuses on adaptive grazing management, soil health, and sustainable livestock production. We run 100+ mother cows and 1,000+ grass cattle as part of our Regenerative Ranching Initiative, which demonstrates the benefits of sustainable beef production and holistic land management.
Intern Responsibilities
- Construct, repair, and maintain various types of fencing, including barbed wire, electric, and permanent perimeter fencing.
- Assist with post hole digging, setting posts, stretching wire, and securing fence materials.
- Regularly inspect and troubleshoot fencing issues to maintain safe enclosures for livestock.
- Operate and maintain ranch tools and equipment such as post drivers, wire stretchers, power tools, and ATVs.
- Work independently and take initiative to identify fencing needs and complete projects efficiently.
- Support general ranch operations and assist with other infrastructure projects as needed.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old and legally eligible to work in Canada.
- High level of self-discipline and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong physical fitness—ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work long hours outdoors, and navigate rough terrain.
- Comfortable working in all weather conditions (heat, rain, wind, etc.).
- Experience with hand tools and ranch equipment is preferred but not required—willingness to learn is key.
- Prior experience in ranch work, fencing, or outdoor labor is a plus but not mandatory.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record preferred.
Schedule & Compensation
- 40-50 hours per week, with some evening or weekend work as needed.
- One full day off per week.
- Housing provided.
