Private Montana ranch seeking a full-time seasonal wrangler. Must be able to ride and work with horses independently, have well above average horsemanship and training skills. Competent in the round pen and in the back country.

Primary responsibilities are to wrangle horses each day, ride/work all ranch horses (11 geldings) to improve their ground handling skills and manners. Riding responsibilities include monitoring and packing salt/mineral to a small herd of cattle in the mountains. Minimal, but some guest riding supervision. Other duties listed below.

Dates flexible, May through August. Must have flexibility in work schedule including evenings and weekends. Room and board provided.

DUTIES:

  • Care for the horses, including feed/water, wrangle and minor veterinary care.
  • Responsible for monitoring the summer cattle
  • Ride, evaluate and recommend suitability of each horse for riders of all skill levels.
  • Ensure safety and comfort of all riders.
  • Cleaning and organizing of tack, barn, corrals, etc.
  • Maintain aesthetics of the barn, corrals and the area around the buildings.
  • Perform any other chores including, but not limited to: cut/build trails, irrigating, fencing, controlling noxious weeds, running ranch errands and general ranch work.
  • Assorted duties as requested by the ranch manager.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Proven riding and horsemanship skills
  • Basic CPR and First Aid (Training is provided).
  • High School diploma or equivalent with 2 years of experience
  • Experience and ability to use and maintain tools and equipment.
  • Available from May through August.
  • Must be able to lift 100 lbs.
  • Smoke/Vape/Drug Free workplace
  • Able to work independently in a remote environment. Food and lodging will be provided at the ranch.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Current driver’s license.
  • Must have at least 2-3 years’ experience working with horses and riders and at least two riding references. May request a riding video.
