LOCATION SUMMARY
The Flying D Ranch is a spectacular property located in southwest Montana. The property operates as a working ranch managed for the production of bison and wildlife. A 113,613-acre Ranch, the Flying D ranges from steep, wooded land on the south end, to rolling meadows in the central portion, to high-rolling bench topography on the north end. A good habitat for a variety of native wildlife, the Flying D is home to established populations of mule deer, white-tailed deer, Rocky Mountain elk, Rocky Mountain gray wolf, Shiras moose, pronghorn antelope, black bear, mountain lions and badgers, among others. In addition to these species, golden and bald eagle sightings are made throughout most of the year. The Flying D Ranch also boasts excellent trout fisheries in its rivers and streams and offers hunting opportunities through Montana Hunting Company.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Ranch Technician I position assists with several support functions on the Gallatin River farming portion of the Ranch. The employee will help to operate and maintain the irrigation infrastructure on the Ranch. This position will gain experience in wheel lines, center pivots, pumps, and motors. The Ranch Technician I will also be involved in operation and maintenance of the farm and construction equipment.

As a Ranch Technician I, the job responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Run and maintain irrigation systems, including wheel lines and center pivots.
  • Assist in crop and soil monitoring activities.
  • Maintain lawn and landscaping at various building locations.
  • Maintain, build, and repair fences and gates.
  • Perform general Ranch work including cutting and welding materials.
  • Haul and back a bumper pull and gooseneck trailer.
  • Safely operate and maintain vehicles, tractors, and heavy equipment with various attachments.
  • Safely operate ATVs and UTVs.
  • Participate in Ranch safety programs.

The Ranch Technician I position will help with the regenerative grazing and yearling operation on the Madison River side of the Ranch. This position will have daily duties associated with irrigation, fencing and herding of bison. The Ranch Technician I will also be involved in operation and maintenance of the ranch and construction equipment.

As a Ranch Technician I, the job responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Coordinate daily movement of a yearling bison herd, up to 800 head.
  • Follow and implement a grazing management plan for pasture and paddock rotations.
