A private family is seeking a seasonal Ranch Hand in Montana. The Mission is to provide this exclusive, private family serenity, security, stability by supporting the livestock program at this exclusive property. This includes care of cattle and horses, all types of irrigation, haying, fencing, equipment operation, good farming practices, and assisting with all agriculture-related Ranch operations, planning and construction.

This privately-owned estate in beautiful Montana features breathtaking landscapes that include rugged mountains, lush valleys, and serene woodlands. Visitors can experience a rich variety of native wildlife. The ranch maintains a 400 head cow/calf operation and a limited number of horses. The property is equipped with top-tier hospitality amenities and well-designed meeting and conference spaces, offering outstanding leisure and recreational activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Relentless pursuit of a safe working environment and active participation in safety programs.
  • Haying season including the swathing, raking, baling, and transport of bales to stackyards.
  • Irrigation including operation of flood, pivot, and irrigation systems.
  • Equipment operation including swathers, loaders, balers, excavators, skid steer, ATVs.
  • Livestock program – overall herd nutrition and health care.
  • Fixing and repairing fences, corrals, wire gates, headgates, and diversion structures.
  • Range – Follow grazing plan designs and utilize low stress handling techniques for moving livestock.
  • Weed spraying – Noxious weed control utilizing in-house and commercial applicator approaches.
  • Ensure that shop, barns, vehicles, tools, and equipment are properly maintained, kept clean and always kept in their place.
  • Maintain the highest standards of organization and neatness regarding the visual appearance of ranch vehicles, infrastructure, shops, and storage areas including the natural landscape.
  • Ability to operate vehicles and equipment at safe speeds and safety mindset.
  • Work on special projects as directed.

RELATIONSHIP TO OTHERS

The Seasonal Ranch Hand reports directly to the Agriculture Manager and may work closely with other team members and internal support staff. It is therefore necessary that the Seasonal Ranch Hand maintain a satisfactory relationship, relating to owners, their guests, team members and vendors in a mature, thoughtful, professional, and pleasant manner.

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent education.
  • Must be 18 by May 1st, 2025.
  • General knowledge of methods, materials and procedures used in farming. Agriculture maintenance; basic customer service; committed to safety first and have good work habits.
  • 1-2 years ranch hand experience preferred.
  • Experience with power and hand tools, mowers, etc. preferred.
  • Good communicator, always having a positive attitude, suggesting ideas and solutions.
  • The ability to produce quality work in a consistent manner and quantity of work necessary to complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Must be US Citizen or legally able to work in US
  • Valid US drivers license
  • *This position requires the operation of a vehicle; candidate must possess a valid Driver’s License or be able to obtain one within 30 days of employment. The candidate’s driving record must meet the standards and requirements of the Company and the Company’s insurance carrier.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

  • Employees must adhere to Company and property policies and procedures, which are included in the Company’s Employee Handbook.
  • Candidate may be subject to undergo pre-employment drug test, (after offer is given but before applicant has commenced work). Random drug tests are given throughout the year.
  • The Company operates as a drug free/smoke free workplace. Smoking is not allowed on the property, to include but is not limited to, company housing, vehicles, offices or on company machines.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment screenings, background and reference checks.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk and hear. The employee must frequently lift and/ move up to 30 pounds and occasionally lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet, hot or humid conditions; work near moving mechanical parts; outdoor weather conditions; extreme heat or cold.

COMPENSATION AND SCHEDULE

  • Compensation: Starts at $20.00 Depending on experience and skill set.
  • Work Hours: Monday through Friday 7:30am – 5pm and Saturdays 7:30am-12pm (noon). Includes one hour lunch.
  • Seasonal Dates: Flexible start and end dates.
  • Housing and Meals provided daily.
  • Reimbursement for reasonable travel expenses provided.
