Ranch Mechanic/Operator (Assistant Manager in training)

Position Summary:

Willow Creek Ranch (WCR)/Perfect Light Ranch (PLR) employs experienced full-time ranch hands who may live onsite and assist in the management of the ranch year-round. The position reports to the Ranch Manager and Assistant Ranch Manager/Foreman and is responsible for helping to ensure the overall operation of the ranch.

Ranch Description:

WCR and PLR are two private ranches totaling approximately 25,000 acres, with WCR comprising approximately 20,000 and PLR 5,000. Between the two ranches there are approximately 40 total structures, two irrigation pivots, and ten ponds. The ranches are within 20 miles of each other, located just minutes away from Livingston, MT. The ranches are managed for wildlife and recreation and do offer commercial hunting. Employee housing is located on-site at WCR headquarters. Grazing (WCR) and hay production (WCR & PLR) are leased out.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Ability to listen and follow direction
  • Research and learn tasks in real time, using manuals and internet
  • Current certification in first aid and knowledge of safety practices involving machinery, chemicals, horses, firearms, snakes, and predators
  • Proper use of hand tools and power tools
  • Expert experience operating all types of farm and construction machinery
  • Expert experience at welding fabrication
  • Expert experience in machine maintenance and repair
  • Absolute discretion, tact, professional comportment

Position Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Receive direction from owner, ranch manager, or foreman and communicate the progress of all assignments
  • Work as a team with ranch crew, owners, and contractors, as appropriate
  • Tasks may include, but are not limited to:
  • – – fencing
  • – – welding
  • – – water feature and irrigation construction and maintenance
  • – – carpentry
  • – – animal care and training
  • – – wrangler of horses, riding instruction
  • – – road and trail maintenance
  • – – chainsaw
  • – – landscaping
  • – – field farming
  • – – vehicle maintenance
  • – – building maintenance
  • – – snow removal
  • – – hospitality to ranch owners and guests
  • – – observe and report conditions seen on the ranch and surrounding area

THE POSITION OF RANCH MECHANIC/OPERATOR IS PHYSICALLY DEMANDING, REQUIRING HIKING, LIFTING, CLIMBING IN SOMETIMES REMOTE AREAS AND SOMETIMES EXTREME WEATHER. INDIVIDUALS WILL BE EVALUATED FOR THEIR ABILITY TO PERFORM ACCORDINGLY.
