Description of Operation:
This is a “hands on” ranch management position. Although it is not an “absentee owner” position, it is one that affords complete responsibility and minimal oversight on a daily basis. Approximately 2,500 acres under high fence with a large MLD program guided by a wildlife biologist; there is also a migratory waterfowl program along with a Wagyu cattle operation and hay fields. This is not an indoors job, and the selected candidate must have a love of the outdoors and willingness to engage in rigorous outdoor activities and labor in all seasons of the year, in all kinds of weather. The candidate must be innately hardworking and a confident self-starter, comfortable working with or without direction.
Position:
Experienced, hands-on Ranch Manager
Qualifications:
- 3+ years experience managing ranch/farm
- Proven experience in cattle husbandry
- Working knowledge of range management principles
- Strong leadership and decision making skills
- Excellent communications, interpersonal and organizational skills
- Experience and knowledge of wildlife management & practices
- Experience and knowledge of maintenance and repair of farming equipment and ranch vehicles
- Experience in raising and harvesting hay
- Experience in running farm equipment and some heavy equipment.
Responsibilities:
- Reports directly to Owner.
- Implement systems and processes across the ranch that drives efficiency, accountability, and productivity
- Plan and execute capital improvement projects such as habitat improvement, road construction and water infrastructure
- Plan and overseeing ranch projects (native grass improvement selective timber clearing, wetland construction, wildlife habitat/hunting improvements)
- Assist with cattle operation – Coordinate with the Feedyard Manager where operations and production needs overlap
- Participate in daily operations including calving, range management, fence & equipment repairs & maintenance, cattle processing, hay production, and all aspects of ranch work.
- Maintain real-time digital ranch maps with historical and future projects defined
- Utilize spreadsheets to model project workflow and track key milestones/bottlenecks
- Maintain wildlife reports
- Engage with experts on infrastructure, range/habitat, wildlife management and capital improvements to implement programs as needed
- Maintain ranch infrastructures such as fences, ponds, roads, corals, water systems, housing, deer/duck blinds, and buildings including repair and maintenance
- Monitor varmint activity
- Mange outside suppliers, (trash removal, plumbers, electrician etc.)
- Keep owner apprised of work and other activities on the ranch.
- Keep equipment and vehicles in good working order
- Maintain the barns in a clean and organized condition, and maintain the grounds around the houses, barns and cattle pens in neat and orderly condition – mowing/weed eating
- Keep complete and accurate records
- Weekend work sometimes required
- Must have a valid driver’s license in good standing, the ability to be an approved driver for the company, and safely operate vehicles
- Willing to undergo and pass a background check and drug screen.

Salary/Benefits:
- Estimated Salary: $60,000 – $75,000. According to experience. Housing NOT Included, Stipend for health care. Ranch truck provided for ranch related work
