Job Title: Ranch Manager
Location: Pecos River Ranch, Outside Santa Fe, NM
Job Type: Full-time, Year-Round
Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Ranch Manager to oversee the maintenance, operation, and improvement of the Pecos River Ranch. This role requires a strong background in landscape maintenance, project supervision, and general ranch upkeep. The Ranch Manager will be responsible for ensuring that the property remains safe, well-maintained, and aesthetically pleasing. Additionally, there is an opportunity for the Ranch Manager’s spouse to assist with hospitality tasks, grocery shopping, and occasional meal preparation for guests or owners.
Key Responsibilities:
Ranch and Landscape Maintenance
- Oversee and actively participate in all aspects of landscape maintenance and improvement projects.
- Manage irrigation systems, trees, gardens, and native vegetation to ensure a well-manicured property.
- Maintain roads, fencing, pathways, and other ranch infrastructure.
- Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance on equipment, ranch facilities, and outdoor structures.
- Ensure water systems (wells, pumps, irrigation) are operational and properly maintained.
- Manage and supervise ranch hands, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and to a high standard.
Project and Vendor Management
- Oversee landscape improvement projects, ensuring high-quality execution and adherence to timelines.
- Coordinate with external vendors and service providers for maintenance, repairs, and project work.
- Track expenses, manage budgets, and provide cost estimates for upcoming projects.
Fly Fishing & Hunting Operations (Preferred Skills)
- Experience in fly fishing and hunting guiding is highly desirable.
- Stay informed on New Mexico Game and Fish rules and guidelines to ensure compliance with regulations.
- Assist with habitat management, wildlife conservation, and ensuring responsible land use for hunting and fishing activities.
- Maintain ranch resources related to fishing and hunting, including equipment, blinds, and water access points.
Hospitality & Household Assistance (Optional Role for Spouse)
- Assist with grocery shopping and basic household management for owners.
- Help with hospitality-related tasks, including meal prep, light cooking, or guest services when needed.
- Ensure common areas remain organized, welcoming, and ready for visitors.
Seasonal & Winter Maintenance
- Prepare the ranch for changing seasons, including winterizing facilities and equipment.
- Keep walkways and access roads clear and safe during winter months.
- Conduct routine property checks to prevent trespassing or unauthorized access.
Qualifications & Skills:
- 3+ years of experience in ranch management, landscape maintenance, or property oversight.
- Strong knowledge of irrigation systems, soil health, and native plant care.
- Hands-on experience with ranch equipment, including tractors, ATVs, mowers, and irrigation tools.
- Ability to manage and supervise ranch hands, seasonal workers, or contractors.
- Experience in fly fishing and/or hunting guiding is a plus.
- Familiarity with New Mexico Game and Fish regulations.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot mechanical, plumbing, or electrical issues.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in ranch operations, hospitality, or high-end property maintenance.
- Familiarity with local New Mexico landscaping and climate conditions.
- Mechanical knowledge of small engines, vehicles, and ranch equipment.
- Basic culinary or hospitality skills for assisting with guest services.
