Little Orange Creek is 3,158 acre property located in Hawthorne, FL. The property is primarily used for recreational hunting, including white-tailed deer, turkey, waterfowl, dove, quail, hog and alligator. The position is a full-time salaried employee with benefits. The employee must be willing to work long hours and nights and weekends during hunting season. Applicant must have a strong work ethic, be motivated, show initiative, keep a positive attitude and be willing to learn.
Job Duties will include:
- Habitat Management and Restoration
- Species Population Management
- Data Collection, Organization and Analysis
- Manage timber harvest and reforestation
- Groundcover restoration
- Management of gopher tortoise recipient site and silt fence enclosures
- Filling and maintaining feeders
- Fisheries Management
- Invasive/Exotic species control using chemical and mechanical treatments
- Road maintenance and repair
- Assist with various wildlife surveys, including aerial surveys, camera surveys, whistle counts, covey call surveys
- Assist with prescribed burning planning and implementation
- Nest predator trapping with box and leghold traps
- Trapping hogs with boar buster and pig brig traps
- Feeding established routes for quail
- Fence building and repair
- Cleaning and processing harvested game from the property
- Food plot planting and establishment
- Brush control
- Equipment and vehicle maintenance and repair
- Facilities maintenance and repair
- Landscaping
- Mapping using ArcGIS Pro
- Drone Operation
- Create and implement annual management plans
- Permit Application Submission
- Vegetation Plot Sampling
- Tree and Herbaceous Vegetation Identification
Qualifications
- Proficient operating farm equipment and associated implements
- Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of products
- Proficient with ArcGIS Pro
- Florida Certified Burner Certification preferred, but not required
- Certified Wildlife Biologists® through the Wildlife Society preferred, but not required
- Experience using hand and power tools
- Valid driver’s license
- Must be in good physical condition and be willing to work outside in hot/humid conditions
- 2- or 4-year degree in wildlife management or related field preferred, but not required
- Plumbing, electrical and welding experience preferred, but not required
