Hurt Cattle Company
We are a family cow/calf ranch in Southwest New Mexico near Hachita. We are looking for someone to help us out full time with everyday ranch activities such as checking/maintaining waters and fences, putting out hay/feed for cows and horses. The position will also involve some farm tillage tractor driving as well as maintenance on center pivot irrigation.
We have two busy cow working seasons, one in the spring running from May to beginning of July, the second is in the fall running from October to December. Help during the seasonal work will require being horseback and the ability to work with a group as a team (branding, flanking, roping, pen work and vaccinating). During the busy seasons you will be required to be present every day including weekends.
The other busy season we have is our preparation of the center pivots which runs from July to September, this season will require the tractor to be running 6 days a week. Depending on the employee some welding will need to be done but this skill is not a requirement for the job.
The workload will be about 8 hours a day, but I need someone that can be called at any time due to livestock emergencies such as cows on the highway at midnight. The job will require a basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance. This also entails being knowledgeable about the equipment they are operating weather it is a truck or a backhoe so that both operator and equipment stay safe and functional.
The employee will also need to maintain the house that is provided and compound. We are a family friendly operation, but the compound is remote as in the house is 50 miles (about 1 hour drive time to nearest grocery store). There is a public school within 30 minutes of the house and the bus runs to the town which is miles away.
