Ranch Caretaker needed in beautiful Cherry Cherry Creek outside of Durango, Colorado. Grounds keeping, fixing fences and care for the facility is the primary role. Additional help is needed for our ranch and the ideal candidate will possess skills in  ranch grounds maintenance. Someone who is retired, a couple or Veteran who enjoys the ranch lifestyle.

Responsibilities:

1. Fencing and Facility Maintenance:

  • Build, repair, and maintain fences, gates, and other structures.
  • Maintain barns and other out buildings to ensure they are safe and functional
  • Clean equipment and facilities

2. General Farm Duties:

  • Perform general labor tasks as needed, such as mending 14 miles of fencing, clearing debris, mow property grass and weeding as needed
  • Possible additional tasks based on ranch needs

3. Assist with special projects or seasonal tasks as required

  • Feed, water and check on cattle.
  • Assist Ranch Manager with cattle as needed

4. Herding and Handling:

  • Assist with moving livestock between pastures or to and from market.
  • Maintain safe and effective handling practices to ensure the well-being of both animals and handlers.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience: Previous experience working on a ranch or farm is often preferred but not always required. Training will be provided to the right applicant
  • Physical Fitness: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, often in varying weather conditions
  • Mechanical Skills: Basic knowledge of machinery and equipment repair is beneficial.
  • Animal Handling: Experience with or willingness to learn proper animal handling and care techniques
  • Problem Solving: Ability to troubleshoot issues related to equipment, livestock health, and facility maintenance.
  • Communication: Good communication skills to work effectively with other ranch staff and report issues to Ranch Manager

Work Environment:

  • Conditions: The job will involve working outdoors in various weather conditions. It may require lifting heavy objects, standing for long periods, and handling animals.
  • Hours: 40 hours workweek can vary and may include weekends and holidays, depending on the needs of the ranch.
  • Reports To: This position will report to the Ranch Manager

Compensation: Work trade for furnished housing paid utilities except for your phone, with the opportunity for monetary compensation of $20.00 an hour.
