Job Posting: Ranch Foreman
Location: Hockley, Texas
Job Type: Full-Time
We are seeking a hands-on, experienced Farm & Ranch Foreman to help manage a small, family-run farm and ranch in Hockley, Texas. The ideal candidate will have a strong background and interest in organic farming, soil management, and livestock care, along with the ability to work independently and prioritize daily tasks. Our farm currently raises Angus cattle and is transitioning to incorporate Wagyu genetics, with a goal of producing high-quality beef for local markets. In addition, we grow a variety of organic crops and need someone with expertise in sustainable, organic gardening practices to help expand farm-to-table offerings. This is a hands-on role that requires an individual who enjoys working directly with the land, crops, livestock, and equipment daily.
Key Responsibilities:
Organic Farming & Crop Management:
- Crop Planning & Organic Methods – Plan, plant, manage, and harvest a large organic garden with a focus on sustainable and natural growing techniques. Potentially to include some vertical garden components
- Soil Management & Preparation – Assess and improve soil health using organic fertilizers, composting, cover cropping, and pH balancing.
- Pest & Weed Control – Utilize natural, organic pest control and weed management strategies.
- Irrigation & Water Conservation – Maintain efficient irrigation systems to support healthy crops.
- Future Local Market Expansion – Help develop relationships with local businesses, restaurants, and farmers’ markets to sell farm products.
- Beekeeping (Preferred) – Experience in managing beehives for pollination and honey production is a plus.
Livestock & Ranch Operations:
- Cattle Management – Oversee daily care, feeding, and pasture management for our Angus herd, ensuring a smooth transition to incorporating Wagyu genetics.
- Fence and Corral Construction & Maintenance – Build, repair, and maintain fencing and corrals for livestock.
- Equipment Operation & Maintenance – Operate and maintain tractors, tillers, mowers, chainsaws, skidsteers, and irrigation systems.
- Land Maintenance – Mow fields, clear brush, and maintain property grounds for efficient farming and livestock care.
- Construction Support – Assist with small-scale building, repairs, and improvement projects around the farm.
What We’re Looking For:
- Experience in small-scale, organic farming and soil health management.
- Experience with aquaponics and vertical farming
- Familiarity with Angus cattle and an interest in Wagyu breeding and care.
- Strong, hands-on work ethic – this is a physically active role that requires self-motivation and a “doer” not just a “director”
- Ability to prioritize and manage daily responsibilities independently.
- Knowledge of natural gardening techniques, soil conditioning, pH balance, and organic growing methods.
- Basic mechanical skills to maintain farm equipment and make minor repairs.
- Beekeeping experience is a plus.
- Must be able to speak at least some English; bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
- Preferably someone that lives within driving distance from Hockley, Texas. Accommodations MIGHT be a possibility for the right candidate.
Compensation & Benefits:
- $50,000 – $65,000/year, depending on experience
• Full benefits package, including health insurance and 401(k)
