For immediate hire: Full-time Ranch Foreman / Manager Position

This is a family-owned personal and recreational ranch consisting of approximately 1,500 acres located on Hwy 117 between Pearsall and Batesville, Texas.

Job Description:

Seeking a hardworking, responsible, and self-motivated individual with strong work ethic who can take charge with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Building Upkeep: Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of all ranch structures, including, house, guest cabin, barns, and outbuildings.
  • Ability to operate typical farm and ranch equipment, such as tractors and attachments; shredders, grapple, disc, and other equipment to maintain roads and fields.
  • Irrigation: Oversee the maintenance and repair of water wells, troughs, and irrigation systems, ensuring efficient water use for landscaping, ponds, pastures, and knowledge of pivot operation.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and repair ranch-owned vehicles, machinery, and equipment, including tractors, ATVs, and tools.
  • Maintain roads and fences to include brush control by mechanical and chemical spraying.
  • Assist with some planting.
  • Welding experience preferred but not required.
  • Landscape and Grounds: Oversee the upkeep of landscaping, including mowing, trimming, and tree care.
  • Water Systems: Ensure the functionality of wells, water storage, and distribution systems for residence, ponds, and pastures.
  • Order and/or purchase supplies, equipment, and maintenance parts when necessary.
  • Monitor property and respond to incidences of trespass.

Wildlife and Habitat Management:

  • Assist with management of hunting operations to include guided quail hunts and deer hunting during hunting season.
  • Basic knowledge of cleaning deer and birds is mandatory.
  • Filling and maintaining corn and protein feeders and deer blinds to ensure they are ready for hunts and throughout hunting season.
  • Assist with annual deer surveys, MLDP tagging and reporting.
  • Prepare houses for owner and guest prior to arrival.
  • Ranch staff is not permitted to hunt on the ranch.
  • The ranch is not a commercial hunting ranch.

Vendor / Contractor Management:

  • Vendor Coordination: Oversee and work with external contractors and service providers for specialized repairs and major projects.
  • Onsite Supervision: Oversee vendors while they are on-site to ensure compliance with ranch standards and safety protocols.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Problem-Solving: Ability to diagnose and resolve maintenance issues efficiently.
  • Physical Stamina: Capability to lift eighty (80) pounds and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Tool Proficiency: Skilled in the use of hand and power tools necessary for maintenance and repair work.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and maintain detailed records of maintenance activities.
  • Communication Skills: Good interpersonal skills to interact with owners and vendors.
  • Vendor Management: Experience in selecting, vetting, and managing local vendors and contractors.
  • Adaptability: Flexibility to manage unexpected repairs and changing priorities.

Qualifications:

  • Salary commensurate with experience and education
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience
  • Desire to work in a remote or ranch setting.
  • Valid Texas driver’s license
  • Must pass a drug test.
  • Must be flexible with hours and availability to work some nights and weekends, especially during hunting season.
  • Paid vacation, health insurance and 401K retirement are optional.
  • Vacation time is not permitted during hunting season, September through February.
