We are looking for a full-time, onsite, Ranch Foreman / Caretaker, to help maintain our 600 acre ranch in Santa Ynez Valley Ca. This remarkable property contains several guest houses, animals (llamas, horses, donkeys, pigs and chickens) organic row crops, a 15 acre vineyard, and irrigated pastures surrounded by hundreds of acres of peaceful back country used to support cattle and wildlife. The goal of the ranch is to remain agricultural yet financially sustainable indefinitely. In order to reach our goal there are several projects that are carried out by our small team. This position is initially for a Ranch Foreman that will work closely with the Owner and can grow long-term into more responsibility and higher compensation as their strengths are identified and proven. This person will maintain the resources of the land (homes, landscape, fences, wells, equipment, vineyard, animals etc) both personally and through organizing outside contractors along with 1-2 other ranch hands, while making safety and risk management a priority.
We are looking for EXCELLENCE in integrity, honesty and work ethic. The right applicant must have a positive and willing attitude, be flexible, hard working (not afraid of getting their hands dirty) great organizational skills, good communication skills, and efficient with their time. Great references and clean record are a must.
Along with these key personality traits, we are looking for someone experienced in:
– basic contractor/handyman trades (electrical, plumbing etc)
– animal husbandry
– basic computer skills
– landscape install & maintenance
– irrigation
The following experience is desirable, but not required:
– equestrian
– vineyard or other crop management
– Spanish speaking
– managing other employees
– maintaining accounting/other records
– managing budget/budget conscious (in line with the goal of financial sustainability)
