Family-owned partnership seeking land manager for a conservation and recreationally focused property about 1 hr south of Nashville,Tn to manage property for wild northern bobwhites, wild turkeys and white-tailed deer. The landowners are working with Dr. James Martin on restoring bobwhites on the property, and the successful candidate will work closely with Dr. Martin to facilitate the transition of dense loblolly pine forest to pine savanna. Maintaining quality aesthetics and infrastructure is important.
The property is >2,000 acres with diverse land cover types, unique landscape features, and beautiful vistas. The property is well-equipped including numerous tractors, a skid-steer, an excavator, and associated implements. Housing options are available onsite for successful candidate and partner. Potential exists for employment for the successful candidate’s partner.
Essential duties include but not limited to:
- Conduct prescribed fires to maintain bobwhite habitat.
- Plant and maintain food plots for wildlife viewing and hunting opportunities.
- Maintain a functioning and aesthetically pleasing road and trail network.
- Operate and maintain heavy equipment ( including but not limited to large tractors, excavators, skid-steers) in a safe manner.
- Maintain buildings and grounds, with support of hourly employees and contractors, including landowner’s residence, guest house and barn, numerous equipment sheds and barns, and two guest houses.
- Keep accurate records of management operations ( e.g. records of equipment maintenance, employee work schedules, and counts of wildlife populations ).
- Primary work schedule is Monday-Friday with occasional weekend duties.
Primary qualifications include:
- Minimum of an associate degree in wildlife management, forestry, agriculture or related discipline.
- Must be able to pass background check and maintain valid driver’s license.
- Basic knowledge of land management including prescribed fire, road maintenance, crop planting and cultivation, use of pesticides, and equipment operation and maintenance.
- Must have ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals as well as the ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Must be able to routinely lift 50 lbs. and occasionally lift or move 100 lbs.
Salary: $35,000 to $45,000 including housing or housing stipend, basic health insurance, paid time off, retirement
