We are a couple who recently purchased a 150-acre homestead in the stunning Puget Sound area of Washington State, offering breathtaking ocean views from every corner of the property. We are seeking a dedicated, skilled couple to live on-site and assist with various responsibilities, including animal care, farm maintenance, cooking, and construction projects.

Job Responsibilities:

Animal Care:

  • Care for and maintain our diverse group of animals, including 6 horses, 3 donkeys, 2 ponies, 4 cows, 15 chickens, and 2 dogs.
  • Feed animals daily, clean stalls, and maintain the overall health and well-being of all livestock.
  • Care for animals while we are traveling, including ensuring they are fed, exercised, and properly attended to.
  • Horse training and farrier work is a significant plus.

Homestead Maintenance:

  • Assist with general maintenance and upkeep of the property, including fencing, barns, and trails.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment for both animals and humans.
  • Forestry skills are a plus for managing the land and woodlot areas.

Cooking & Meal Planning:

  • Plan and prepare healthy, well-balanced meals for us.
  • Shop for groceries and manage meal prep, ensuring a focus on nutrition and fresh ingredients.

Construction Projects:

Assist with ongoing construction projects around the ranch, including:

  • Building two large greenhouses (2,000 sq. ft. each).
  • Constructing a woodshop barndominium and additional guest cabins.
  • Experience in construction, woodworking, or similar skills is highly desirable.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Experience working with horses and livestock, with a strong preference for those skilled in horse training.
  • Knowledge of animal health and farrier work is a plus.
  • Practical experience with property maintenance, including construction, fencing, and barn upkeep.
  • Forestry and land management experience is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in meal planning, healthy cooking, and grocery shopping.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative, with a strong work ethic and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well as a couple in a team-oriented environment.

Compensation:

This is a live-in position, with compensation provided for your work in the form of housing and animal boarding and feed. The position is ideal for those who enjoy a rural lifestyle, and the opportunity to live in a beautiful, tranquil environment while being part of a growing homestead.

Trial Period:

We would like to start with a 3-month trial period to ensure that it’s a good fit for both parties. This will give you the chance to get acclimated to the property and responsibilities, and for us to ensure compatibility. Please keep this in mind if you are considering relocating from out of state or out of the country.

You will need to maintain a P.O. Box in a nearby town for any personal correspondence or deliveries. We are 4 minutes to town. Lots of shops restaurants, movie theater’s parks and activities in the surrounding area for your free time enjoyment.
