Ryan S.
This is Ryan S. from Houston, Texas. I am 17 and planning to be a fifth generation farmer and cattle rancher. I am looking to gain experience on a larger cattle operation, being that is what I plan on transitioning the family farm into eventually.
I’ve had experience around livestock and agriculture my whole life and have worked on the family farm during summers full time and weekends throughout my life. I have experience in all aspects of haying (round and square) and all aspects of cow/calf operations. As well as farming grain sorghum, rice, corn, and soybeans.
Being raised by a farmer and rancher, I have a strong work ethic and have experienced the hardships of this occupation. You will never hear me complain about a certain task or area of work. My goal for this is to have an open mind and learn as much as possible so that I’ll be successful starting my own cattle operation someday. If there are any skills that I would need to work on or learn prior I will come prepared, I have the resources to do so.
I will be available to work full time starting early June and ending late July. I’m a honest hard worker and willing to do anything I’m asked of. I am willing to travel anywhere as long as housing is provided. Very flexible with salary; mostly concerned with gaining more experience on a larger working cattle ranch. My skills and experience are listed below:
- Operated tractors and heavy machinery for daily operations.
- Doctored cattle, checked herd health daily, and worked cattle.
- Calving (pulling, tagging, vaccinations)
- Maintained equipment and facilities.
- Built and maintained fence
- Cut, raked, baled, and hauled hay (round and square bales)
- Plowed fields, assisted in harvest, and hauled grain carts
- Mowing, weedeating, and general upkeep of roads, fence line, and facilities
- Delivered and loaded hay for customers
- Maintained drainage of fields
- Fabricated metal for solutions to fix equipment
- Working independently and in groups
- Fixed broken pipe on water troughs and water well maintenance
- Arc welding, mig welding, and fabrication
- Farm and ranch tasks on ATV and horseback (horse skills minimal but can work on prior to employment if necessary)
- Mechanic work on agriculture equipment (Tractors, trailers, trucks, hay equipment, combines, discs)
- Beef Quality Assurance certified (cow/calf operations)
- OSHA General Industry certified
