Nicholas O.
I am a dedicated, hands-on worker seeking a seasonal ranch hand position from late May to late July where I can gain practical experience in farming, animal care, and ranching. My wife, our two young children, and I are working toward the long-term goal of homesteading and running a bed-and-breakfast, and I am eager to immerse myself in ranch life to learn the skills necessary to make that dream a reality.
Currently, I work as a high school teacher in Houston, but I have a strong background in hands-on work, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, and general maintenance. I have experience raising chickens, caring for horses at summer camps, and I am currently volunteering at a horse farm to gain more experience. I learn fast, work hard, and enjoy doing tough jobs. Note, I am not interested in working on a conventional farm.
What I’m Looking For:
A seasonal ranch hand position where I can learn about livestock care, farm maintenance, pasture management, and sustainable/self-sustaining farming practices.
- On-site housing for my wife, our 2.5-year-old daughter, and 6-month-old son.
- A work environment where I can contribute through hard work while learning alongside experienced ranchers.
- If tasks allow, our whole family would love to help where possible!
- A location relatively close to a town so we can attend Sunday Mass weekly.
- Room and board in exchange for labor, though we are open to a small stipend.
Skills & Experience:
- Strong work ethic – I learn fast, work hard, and enjoy tackling tough jobs.
- Hands-on skills in carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, and general property maintenance.
- Experience with horse care, raising chickens, and farm upkeep.
- Background in hospitality and property management, having run an Airbnb with my wife.
- Passion for farming, sustainable living, and working with animals.
I’m eager to work hard, contribute, and learn as much as possible. If you have an opportunity that fits, please reach out via email. I’d love to talk about how I can be a great fit for your ranch!
