Andy Z.
I am an experienced, dedicated, semi-retired cowman looking for a cowboy, buckaroo or campman position. I have reached retirement age and want a riding job that will let me enjoy being a horseback and working cows. A caretaker’s job is not my preference. I don’t want to mow lawns, pull weeds, cultivate flowers, irrigate, feed the dogs, or shovel stalls. I do want to help you get your cow works done and enjoy a good horse.
I was raised on the Gray Ranch in the bootheel of New Mexico, but spent most of my life cowboying/buckarooing on ranches in Oregon/Nevada/Arizona and the Great Basin area. I have been in camp jobs, worked on the wagon, been coltman/roughstring rider, been cowboss, been livestock manager, been general manager.
I have worked for big outfits of over 10,000 head/over 3 million acres to small family ranches of 200 head/35,000 acres. While in management, I was responsible for and expedited all activities salient to efficient operation of ranches, including registered cows, commercial cows, ranch horses, feedlot, commercial elk herd, buffalo, range, water, government leases, public lands, wildlife habitat, hay production, improvements/upkeep, fences, equipment, personnel.
I have never been an ‘arm-chair’ employee. I will be right there, doing whatever it takes to get the job done. I prefer doing so, but being a horseback and working cows is what I love.
Housing is not necessary. My wife and I have down-sized to a 5th wheel with 3 slides. We would require some sort of hook-up for it or arrangements for facilities. I have 2 ranch horses, and 1 small house dog. Still shoe my own horses and work everyday a horseback.
If you need a retired cowboy that has the knowledge and skills, contact me for a resume and references. (Our phone/internet service is unreliable but I will get back to you ASAP.) Thanks
