Supports the World Hunger Relief’s mission of alleviating hunger through sustainable agriculture, education, and research by coordinating all aspects of the regenerative livestock enterprise, assisting the education director in the education related to livestock management, and ensuring the livestock enterprise is financially sustainable.
What are we looking for:
The Livestock Coordinator will promote, develop, and maintain a sustainable and regenerative livestock management enterprise complementary to the WHRI’s mission, values, goals, and resources.
This position has three main components 1) care of the livestock, pastures, equipment, and facilities 2) overseeing the business aspect of the enterprise 3) supervising and educating interns, volunteers and visitors.
We are looking for an individual that is passionate about regenerative agriculture and possesses the vision and experience to facilitate WHRI’s livestock program doing its part to catalyze a robust, resilient, and regenerative food system that prioritizes local agricultural production, equitable access to healthy food, and ecological sustainability.
The successful Livestock Coordinator is an energetic, flexible, persevering professional who takes the responsibility to work hard and finish the job. This individual compassionately cares for livestock, can coordinate an ecologically sustainable, ethically anchored, and financially profitable enterprise, and can supervise, educate and inspire people in the realm of sustainable agriculture.
General Qualifications:
Hands-on experience with regenerative/sustainable livestock management is required. Previous experience caring for bees, cattle, chickens, ducks, LGDs, pigs, sheep and turkeys using sustainable/regenerative practices is preferred. Must be able to work independently as well as alongside a team.
Qualified candidates will be capable of facilitating volunteer and group learning experiences. Previous management, sales, entrepreneurial, and educational experience is preferred. Must be able to sustain extended periods of time working outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
Must be able to lift 50-100 lbs. A valid driver’s license and good driving record is required. Tractor and implement operation experience is preferred. To perform this position successfully, the individual is expected to interact with animals in a calm, caring manner, managing their needs and that of the local ecosystem. The individual is expected to manage the business aspect of the enterprise, interact with visitors, and educate interns, volunteers and staff.
