Responsibilities:
The Maintenance Director will be responsible for general management, maintenance, upkeep, repair, and project management for all on-site facilities and program areas. The Maintenance Director may work in conjunction with and manage the Ranch Manager who may be responsible for duties specific to the ranch (i.e. property upkeep, farm animals, hay harvest, roads, snowplowing, etc.) or helping in out in those specific areas or areas the Maintenance Director needs extra assistance. The Maintenance Director may also manage a Maintenance Assistant seasonally from May through August. Areas and property that will fall under the responsibility of the Maintenance Director will include all buildings, structures, utilities (i.e. plumbing), vehicles, program areas, and general property (i.e. tables, chairs, beds, and commercial appliances) as well as the land/site. The Maintenance Director will also be available for emergent after-hours maintenance issues and repair. The Maintenance Director will also be responsible for project management, oversight of contracted projects, ordering and purchasing of project supplies, rental equipment, and evaluating needs for new equipment acquisitions. The Maintenance Director will also be responsible for opening the site in preparation for the operating season (i.e. turning water on) and final shutdown of the site and facilities for the winter (i.e. turning water and electric off) as well as implementing rodent control tactics to minimize rodents on-site and in facilities. The Maintenance Director may also need to assist with ranch specific duties if needed. During our operating season (while camp is in session in the summer), the Maintenance Director will work on general site projects and be available for common maintenance needs (i.e. broken property, leaks, clogs, etc.) as well as ensuring certain resources are filled and maintained (i.e. propane tanks, gas tanks, etc.). During the summer they will also assist in programming from our programming staff if requested. This could entail helping gather supplies for certain activities or construction of items for programming.

Our entire property/site is 600 acres with a main lodge and small commercial kitchen, an infirmary, an arts and crafts facility, target sport ranges, maintenance shop, expedition facility, main office, and laundry facility. The property also includes 6 year-round staff residences and about 25 structures (i.e. cabins, washhouses, and program areas) that are used only during the operating season.

The Maintenance Director should also gain general knowledge of our program, purposes, and goals and have the ability and willingness to be available to help out in other areas of camp when needed. This could entail helping lead an activity, picking up or dropping off a trip, or helping out at the lodge or others areas of camp.

Skills, Experience, and Qualifications REQUIRED:

General knowledge of health and safety standards and ability to translate those into physical solutions.
General construction and maintenance knowledge and experience (i.e. carpentry, framing, plumbing, etc.)
General knowledge and maintenance for common utilities (i.e. gas, water, electric).
Basic electrical experience and ability to recognize electrical issues and contract electrician for repairs.
Bidding out subcontractors (i.e. assessing suitability, skill, and price)
General vehicle/mechanical experience and ability to troubleshoot common maintenance and repair.
Heavy equipment operation experience (i.e. backhoe, bulldozer, tractor, trailers, etc.)
Use, maintenance, and troubleshooting of smaller equipment (i.e. standard tools, power tools, chainsaw, etc.)

Skills, Experience, and Qualifications PREFERRED:

General knowledge, maintenance, and troubleshooting of small and commercial appliances (i.e. dishwasher, washers/dryers, ovens, etc.)
General ranching knowledge
General knowledge or experience managing site and facilities in an institutional setting (i.e. school, camps, rental properties, lodging facilities)
Experience working in childcare, education, youth sports, or a summer camp setting
Ability to work with and interact with children
Ability to work independently and stick to schedules and project timelines and deadlines.
Ability to maintain and keep work and equipment storage spaces organized.
