Position Summary
Our wrangler position starts May 1st and ends October 15th . Full time position to start March 1st .
This position includes all aspects of regular ranch work, as well as guest services. The ideal candidate should have strong people skills, as wranglers will be guest-facing throughout the summer. English or Western riding skills are a necessary part of this position. Every day is different at the ranch, must be adaptive and take direction well. We are a team, as such the position requires working together with coworkers and other ranch personnel effectively and with a good attitude. If you love the mountains, the outdoors, and a challenging, fun ranch environment, this job is for you!
Applicants will be asked to submit saddling, riding and teaching videos at a later time. If applicant is local, there is potential for a working interview at the Crazy Mountain Ranch.
Job Duties
- Customer service
- Legging up guest horses for summer season; includes groundwork, arena work and riding out
- Putting hours on up-and-coming guest horses
- Safely taking guests out on trail rides and cattle drives
- Driving teams/wagons for various guest events
- Fencing projects: building as well as repair and maintenance of current fences
- Various ranch projects as needed to keep our operation running smoothly
- Cow work: trailing, gathering, sorting, branding, etc.
Competencies
- Riding skills are absolutely necessary. Must be able to walk/trot/lope confidently, do basic groundwork and work safely around horses
- Be teachable!
- General familiarity and handiness in ranch tasks
- Physically fit enough to put in long days in a physical work environment
- Good attitude
- Flexibility – every day is different at the ranch
Preferred Skills
- Guest services/ customer service experience
- Knowledge of leads and how to post the trot
- Some cow knowledge and experience
- Ability to drive a truck/trailer safely and competently
- Experience on UTVs/ATVs, tractors, skid steers and other farm equipment
- Experience driving draft teams
- Basic veterinary care of horses
- Teaching riding lessons to children and/or adults
Qualifications
- 2+ years of horse experience, English or Western
- Valid drivers license and reliable transportation
Compensation
- Competitive hourly wage, potential for tips
- Housing provided. Own bedroom and bath in shared staff housing unit
- Meals provided on work days
