WRANGLER – POSITION DESCRIPTION
We are a small non-profit that got its start in 2013. Our organization is a unique program that uses the remote wilderness and the horse/human connection to challenge and inspire personal growth in combat veterans suffering from mental and physical scars. We are still staffed by the same core of people who began this venture, along with a couple new additions. Our staff, though small, excels at giving our veterans a life changing experience.
Desired Skills:
- Excellent customer service, self-management and organizational skills
- Strong attention to detail/ability to see tasks to completion in a timely manner
- Familiarity with and desire to learn new methods for equine handling, behavior, care, feeding
- Responsible, trusting and honest behavior
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Initiative and problem solving skills
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. repetitively
- Patience
- Strong love for the outdoors and a desire to immerse oneself in it
- Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively with clients
- Positive, fun attitude while maintaining a professional manner
- Desire to work with all types of people
- A working knowledge of or willingness to learn about the Cowboy Lifestyle
- Ability to combine a strong work ethic with a good sense of humor
Major Goal:
A wrangler is dedicated to providing the best possible experience for their guests by maintaining healthy horses, a safe riding environment via thorough communication and instruction, and a fun riding environment by appearing relaxed while remaining attentive. Their enthusiasm for and immersion in Western culture, horses and the veteran community is the key to success for the organization. They are dedicated to actively promoting and positively representing Heroes and Horses.
Responsibilities and Requirements Include (Not limited to):
- Daily horse care, saddling and tack maintenance
- Maintenance and care for 35 head of horses
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience packing
- Experience Ferrier
- Basic ranch maintenance (fence work, grounds keeping, ensuring a tidy appearance)
- Excellent riding skills
- Valid driver’s license and transportation
- Satisfactory background check
- Professional and personal references
- Cellular phone
- Flexible schedule and availability (including Holidays and weekends)
- Must represent the organization in a positive and professional manner
