Behrenwald Farms is a full-cycle, family-owned beef cattle and crop farm operating in Clarksville, MI. We are seeking a full-time Head Herdsman to oversee all areas of our cattle operation including the feeding and care of our cow/calf herd, the feeding and care of our fat cattle, as well as working in the fields and grainery. If you have a passion for agriculture and the motivation and desire to help us maintain a top-notch angus/sim-angus herd and produce prime-grade fat cattle and high-quality production feed crops, we would love to talk with you.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Feeding and care of the cow and calf herd as well as the fat cattle. We are a full-cycle “Breed to Feed Out” operation with approximately 300 head of cattle.

Candidate will be responsible for:

  • Breeding, birthing, feeding, weaning, treating, hauling and handling cattle
  • Preparing, scraping, and repairing pens
  • Building and repairing fences throughout the various pastures and pens
  • Monitoring herd quality and health
  • Tracking and recording required data

Assisting in and overseeing other farm/field hand duties including:

  • Assisting with hay, corn sileage, straw and other cash crops such as corn, soy, beans, etc. This may include planting, picking stones, harvesting, mowing and operating balers.
  • Dumping/handling of grain and the grainery operation including feed bunks
  • Operating, maintaining, and repair of feeding farm equipment

REQUIREMENTS

  • 18 years of age or older with valid driver’s license
  • Farm Endorsement (F) or CDL preferred but not required
  • BQA-Certified preferred
  • Ability to pass a drug screen and background check
  • Experience with cattle/farming/equipment
  • Experience with running/overseeing a cattle operation
  • Mechanically-inclined
  • Honest and reliable with the ability to work autonomously and in a team with junior herdsmen
  • Must exhibit leadership qualities including the ability to take initiative and make decisions with confidence
  • Ability to think outside-the-box, problem solve, and bring forward solutions
  • Ability to communicate effectively with management and other team members
  • Ambitious with a desire to continually improve and help us take the cattle operation to the next level of excellence
  • Flexible and adaptable
  • Ability to lift 75+ lbs
  • Ability to work on feet and operate equipment for occasional long shifts
  • Experience with cutting trees/operating a chainsaw preferred
  • A love of cattle and farming
