Eastern Idaho cattle ranch and haying operation

We have an opening for a full time, long-term cattleman/farmer on our eastern Idaho family ranch to fill a diversified role.

Candidates would preferably have a minimum of at least two years of experience in all aspects of farming and ranching, but for the right person we are willing to help train if we see long term potential in someone who has a serious passion for growing things. We need an individual who considers the well-being of the livestock, understands and is willing to work with the land in a way that promotes soil health and is a problem solver. We are looking for an individual that is self-motivated and passionate about agriculture, that has the desire to grow with our program and be a leader. Mechanic abilities are a greatly appreciated qualification.

Candidates must be willing to perform all duties of a working ranch. Duties include haying, farming, irrigating and winter feeding with equipment, riding in the high country in the spring, summer and fall months moving cattle and gathering, and overall herd health and management throughout the year. Housing is provided as well as a vehicle for work use.

Salmon, Idaho is one of the prettiest places and a small agricultural community, high mountain ranges surround the area and it is isolated by the largest contiguous roadless wilderness area in the lower 48. If you, or your significant other needs a Target run every week, this isn’t your place. However, the ranch is quite close to the small town where you can get just about everything a guy needs. We are looking for someone that wants a long-term position and can work closely with us on several different places but also be able to be independent and not need a daily or weekly “to-do” list. We are not a corporate ranch. We live here, work with you, and this includes our kids, and we are a family operation.

Wage is DOE. Monthly salary and housing to start, with a possibility of cattle ownership program are in place for additional compensation based on trigger points that show both parties that this is a good fit and a long-term choice for everyone.

Primary duties would include:

  • Swath, bale and stack hay – round bales
  • Flood irrigate
  • Some management of other irrigators but potentially some handline, wheel line and pivot irrigation duties for parts of the year
