Circle JV Land and Cattle // Circle J Meat
Ranch manager needed for two locations, full-time, including some morning and evening chores on weekends and holidays. Cow/calf, beef finishing, and e-commerce retail operation. Must be experienced in all aspects of ranching and maintenance with relevant experience shown in resume. College level ranching training is desirable. Must know or be willing to learn Holistic Management, Grass fed/Grass finished, Animal Welfare procedures and rotational grazing, raising registered Akaushi cattle and Commercial Brangus / Baldy cattle. General knowledge of wildlife and seasonal hunting operations. A resume with local references is required. Pay will be based on experience and skills.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Possess organizational and leadership skills
- Knowledge of Ranch related business processes and functions
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with contract employees and ownership
- Ability to operate independently with minimal day-to-day supervision
- Safety conscious in all decisions
- Operate and maintain heavy equipment
- Accurately solve problems
- Ability to complete multiple, diverse tasks of differing priorities
- Competent computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite)
- Knowledge of local, state and federal laws and regulations regarding hunting
- Ability to traverse terrain and work independently in harsh conditions
- First aid skills
- Must have a valid driver’s license in good standing, the ability to be an approved driver for the company and to safely operate vehicles
- Working knowledge of septic, well, electrical, mechanical and HVAC systems a plus
- Minimum GED or High School Diploma
- BSc/BA in Business Ag or relevant field a plus, but not required
Responsibilities:
Infrastructure
- Maintain ranch infrastructures such as fences, ponds, roads, corrals, water systems, housing, deer blinds, and buildings including construction, repair, and maintenance
- Operate and maintain all ranch equipment including vehicles, tractors, trailers and feeders
- Plant grasses and perform wildlife habitat improvements
- Special projects as assigned including ranch beautification (lawn mowing, weed eating, barn cleaning, vehicle cleaning, etc.)
- Help maintain ranch records for cattle operations and hunting
Cattle and Livestock
- Monitor cattle herd by performing visual inspections of livestock, food, and water sources
- Develop an annual cattle plan specifically around pasture rotation, breeding and calving cycles, buying and selling, including:
- Monitor pasture conditions
- Corral animals for vaccinations, branding and testing
- Transport animals to market or other lease locations
- Identify and determine proper treatment for sick animals
- Maintain high standards of animal welfare
Wildlife
- Ensure all animals have access to water and food
- Verify and ensure all feeders are properly filled and maintained
- Assist with Hunting Operations as needed
- Maintain high standards of animal welfare
- Ability to clean, cape, and quarter wildlife
Administrative
- Maintain cattle records in the software database
- Ability to use spreadsheets to analyze data collected on cattle
- Design strategy and set goals for growth
- Maintain budgets and optimize expenses
- Set policies and procedures for independent contractors
- Oversee recruitment and training of independent contractors
- Evaluate and improve operations and financial performance
- Prepare regular inventory reports for management
- Ensure implementation of health and safety regulations
Other Job Responsibilities:
- Represent Circle J Ranch in a professional manner at all times
- Assist with any other ranch activities as assigned by ranch owner to aid in the development of ranching and wildlife operations
- Pass drug screening
- US work authorization
- Background check
- Maintain employee confidence and protect company assets, including intellectual property, by keeping information confidential
- Ability to safely shoot and handle firearms
- Ability to prioritize, develop, and communicate “The Plan”
- Demonstrate good people skills and ability to interact with all guests
Work Schedule:
- 8 hour workday Monday to Friday
- Ability to work weekends on call or upon request to assist with hunting and/or livestock operations
Ability to commute/relocate:
Hempstead TX 77445: Reliably commute or relocate before starting work (Required)
Experience:
Ranching: 5 -10 years (Preferred)
Work Location: Two locations~ 1,000 Acres
