Double Diamond X Ranch
This is a multi-duty wilderness guest ranch position. Foremost, we're looking for a fly fishing and wilderness hiking guide. The guide will lead guests in stream-side walking-wading fly fishing tours on the South Fork of the Shoshone River as it runs through the Ranch. Fishing tours focus on assisting guests in catching wild trout while teaching guests the art of fly fishing. The South Fork is a classic Rocky Mountain free-stone river and wild fishery. Target species include Yellowstone Cutthroat, Brown, and Brook trout.
The guide will also lead interpretive hiking tours on the adjacent Shoshone National Forest and Washakie Wilderness that are designed to inform guests about the region's flora and fauna, historic landscape processes, geology, and conservation issues such as endangered or invasive species.
An equally important responsibility of this position will be to perform hospitality-related functions such as assisting with orienting guests and providing assistance with events, as well as assisting in Ranch management. Specific non-guiding duties will include tending bar during weddings and other events, assisting in lawn care and weed management, flood irrigation of hayfields, fencing, and other general efforts in Ranch management.
This is a seasonal position extending from mid-May through mid-September; the capacity to start in May and work through mid-September is required. Private room, all utilities, and competitive salary along with tips are provided. This is an outstanding opportunity for anyone who is passionate about wilderness and who wants to work outside in a spectacular setting.
In addition to fly fishing and guiding experience, applicants should have a background in the management and conservation of fish and wildlife in the greater Yellowstone region, as well as an understanding of landscape processes and conservation issues that are important in the area. An understanding of how the type and timing of insect hatches affect angler success is a must. A passion for fly fishing and wilderness hiking is a must. Bar tending experience is a plus. Operation of machinery including farm tractors, skid steers, four-wheelers, and excavators is a plus. CPR and first aid certification is a plus. The Ranch is in grizzly bear country so proficiency with bear spray and/or firearms is necessary. Most importantly, hospitality is the focus of Double Diamond X Ranch, so applicants must be energetic, outgoing, friendly, patient, and have a good sense of humor.
To apply, attach a resume to an email, and outline your qualifications. Photos or videos illustrating your skills are always appreciated.
