Nestled outside the beautiful town of Hendersonville, NC, this serene family retreat features diverse animals, an organic garden, and abundant wildlife. We are seeking a dedicated couple for a full-time, year-round role to live on-site in provided housing and manage the property. The ideal candidates are motivated, passionate about agriculture, animal husbandry, environmental stewardship, and property maintenance. You will collaborate closely with the Owners to ensure the seamless operation of the farm, including animal care, organic gardening, rental property management, equipment maintenance, and overall property upkeep.
Key Responsibilities
Farm Operations:
- Provide daily care for animals and livestock (7 days per week); Part-time staff available to assist.
- Feed, water, groom, perform health checks, and maintain animal living environments.
- Support organic gardening tasks, including soil preparation, planting, irrigation, fertilization, pest control, and harvesting.
- Operate and maintain farm machinery and equipment.
Property Maintenance:
- Conduct routine maintenance on buildings, fences, and other structures.
- Perform landscaping tasks such as mowing, trimming, weed control, and general groundskeeping using equipment like small tractors and zero-turn mowers.
- Maintain roads, trails, and water systems, including erosion control and removal of fallen trees/branches.
- Perform basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical repairs, and other handyman tasks.
Record Keeping and Reporting:
- Maintain detailed records of farm activities, including planting schedules, livestock health, and equipment usage.
- Manage inventory of supplies, tools, and feed.
- Provide regular updates to the Property Owner, including photo and video documentation.
Team Collaboration:
- Work with the Owners to implement farming strategies and property management plans.
- Supervise and coordinate seasonal workers and farm staff tasks.
- Communicate professionally with neighbors and address issues as needed.
Health and Safety:
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations during all farm and property activities.
- Promote a safe working environment for staff, visitors, and animals.
- Maintain a chemical-free environment by avoiding commercial chemical pesticides herbicides and cleaning products.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Manage maintenance and operations for a lake house at Lake Lure, including tenant communication, cleaning, and service scheduling.
- Prepare lodging for the Owners before and after their visits.
- Oversee subcontractors as directed by the Owners.
Qualifications
Required:
- 3-5 years of relevant experience in agriculture, farm/property management, or veterinary practice.
- Knowledge of organic gardening, livestock care, and farm equipment operation.
- Basic handyman skills, including carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail.
- Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency with power tools (e.g., chainsaws, weed eaters).
- Physical stamina to perform manual labor in various weather conditions (ability to lift 50 lbs routinely).
- Legal eligibility to work in the U.S. (fluency in Spanish is a plus).
- Valid driver’s license with experience operating tractors, trailers, and other farm equipment.
- Clear background check and acceptable driving record.
- Compliance with an alcohol, nicotine (cigarettes/vaping), and drug-free property policy.
Preferred:
- Experience with organic and sustainable farming practices.
- Fluency in Spanish.
Compensation
- Full-time, salaried position.
- Competitive salary: $75,000 per couple, based on experience.
- On-property single-family housing provided, including utilities (trial period prior to occupancy).
- Paid time off and 2 weeks of vacation annually.
Animals on Property
- Current: Pyrenean Mastiffs (2), Nigerian Dwarf & Silkie Goats (6), Chickens (9), Babydoll Sheep (5).
- Spring 2025 Additions: Pyrenean Mastiff puppies (2) and lambs (2).
