The Role:
Facilities/Ranch Manager
Exempt
Salary: DOE, from $60k
Reports to: Director of Operations
Supervises: Facilities staff and contracted maintenance personnel.
Wolf Connection is a wolf / wolf-hybrid sanctuary, education center and working ranch. As a fully operational wildlife sanctuary the repair, upkeep and mechanical needs of the facilities, structures and equipment are ongoing year-round. Wolf Connection is a program of Spring of Evolution, Inc. a 501 (c)(3) for-change organization.
The Facilities Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Facilities Department; whose role within the organization is to maintain and improve both human and animal facilities for optimal operational use. The Facilities Manager is an integral team member in supporting and collaborating with the Director of Operations as well as all departments to ensure a safe, functional environment for everyone at the ranch.
The ideal candidate has demonstrated sound leadership and management skills and can oversee a facilities team to ensure day-to-day facilities operations and deadlines are met efficiently and in a timely manner.
This position requires hands on leadership, working alongside facilities staff on tasks to meet deadlines. The Facilities Manager has recent skills in construction, manual and mechanical labor. This includes, but isn’t limited to, fencing, building repairs, carpentry, equipment maintenance, plumbing, cement, etc.
Must have experience with small-to-large ranch equipment and machinery. This includes, but is not limited to, tractors, trailers, bobcats, etc. Must know how to perform preventative vehicle maintenance, including oil changes.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintenance of all applicable equipment; buildings; fleet vehicles; fencing; other structures.
- Grounds: Oversee gardening/landscaping – including seasonal weed /brush abatement, trail creation/maintenance,
- Inventory & organize tools and building materials
- Initially collaborates with the Director of Operations, determining daily priorities for the department staff and clearly communicates assignments to the team ensuring clear conditions of satisfaction for each assignment.
- Develop weekly / monthly / quarterly / annual facilities maintenance plans and protocols
- Participate in the hiring process and performance reviews of Facilities Department staff
- Regular reporting to Director of Operations
- Responsible for accurate task tracking and completion of work orders.
- Expense reporting for all department purchasing
- On call for emergencies
- Perform other duties as assigned
Facilities Manager requirements and qualifications:
- Team player and effective leader – able to lead and follow when appropriate
- Creative, strategic problem solving skills; able to manage complex workloads and multiple projects.
- Professional interpersonal, written and oral communication skills at all times
- Passionate about the mission and vision of the organization and the fundamental role the facility plays in that vision
- Responds well to shifting priorities
- Knowledge of PODIO is helpful; proficient with spreadsheets and other software utilized by the organization
- Thorough knowledge and awareness of hand and power tools
- Comfortable working on ladders & roofs
- Willingness to learn new skills / how to work with new tools
- Familiar with OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations and requirements to operate tools and heavy equipment.
- Good situational awareness and eye for detail
- Highly organized with good time management skills
- Able to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions
- Willingness to ask questions when unsure or curious
- Sound judgement regarding when to escalate issues to Director of Operations.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform physical labor for minimum 4 hours
- Comfortable working on ladders
- Able to stand for long periods of time, outdoors, in varying extreme weather and temperatures
- Able to lift and carry 80 lbs
- Good functional mobility and balance (can crouch, kneel, bend for moderate amounts of time without pain)
- Able to walk frequently and continuously stand, bend, twist at the neck and waist, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and continuously use hand strength to grasp tools while performing duties
- Clean driving record and valid driver’s license
- Ability to work in appropriate safety gear for specific tasks (i.e., eye, ear, nose protection gloves and long sleeves)
