Camp Bryan is a large, privately owned recreational property in eastern North Carolina. Founded in 1898, the property consists of two large lakes (Lake Ellis Simon and Little Lake) and roughly 8,000 acres compromised of pine uplands, pocosin stands, food plots, and waterfowl impoundments. Camp is managed for white-tailed deer, black bear, turkey, waterfowl, dove, and a variety of fish in the lakes. We are looking for a hardworking, self-motivated summer intern to help with the day-to-day management operations on the property. Start/end dates are flexible, but we would like someone that could be here at least May through August. On-site housing will be provided at no cost and the intern may utilize all that Camp has to offer while here such as fishing, a skeet range, and a rifle range.

Duties for the position will include but aren’t limited to assisting with food plot/impoundment farming operations, general management of the lakes, construction/installation of deer stands and duck blinds, equipment operation/maintenance, assisting the state with alligator captures/research, upkeep of main camp area, general property maintenance, and assisting the Camp members as needed. Also, the intern will have the opportunity to meet other professionals in the natural resource field and learn about the many different aspects of managing a large property. Additional intern-driven projects are available but would need to be done after the intern’s primary work is completed.

Ideal Candidates would have:

  • Strong interest in wildlife/habitat management, particularly for game species
  • Strong interest in learning about private property operations and management
  • Willing to work long days in the middle of the NC summer heat
  • Willing to take on task and successfully complete them without assistance
  • Honesty, knowing when to point out problems or concerns and ask for guidance

Desired skills (not required):

  • Equipment operation and basic maintenance (lawn mower, ATV, tractor, backhoe, etc.)
  • Boat/outboard motor operation
  • General knowledge of hand tools and shop equipment
  • General carpentry skills
