Farm in the Pocono Mountains of PA is seeking an entrepreneurial farm manager to lead the transformative journey of a 300-acre farm of mixed woodlands and pasture into a model of sustainable regenerative organic agriculture. Located 30 minutes outside the Lehigh Valley, our vision is to build from the ground up, a diverse environment for plant and animal species grounded in Regenerative Organic farming methods with the goal of achieving Regenerative Organic Alliance certification for our farm and products with a focus on soil health, animal welfare, and social fairness.

Our initial focus is on livestock integration, permaculture, and agroforestry development. This includes everything from running daily operations, overseeing infrastructure projects, to supporting strategic business decisions. Our start-up organization is backed by strong financial support and passionate, creative owners.

We are deeply committed to producing and maintaining the highest level of land stewardship while becoming a profitable regenerative organic farm. Our vision also includes developing the farm as an educational destination for regenerative agricultural practices which focus on soil renewal, agroforestry systems, permaculture, and the full farm ecosystem. POSITION OVERVIEW

The Farm Manager will be responsible for planning, developing, and maintaining a full regenerative farming system including multi-species rotational grazing, agroforestry/silvopasture efforts, permaculture, pollinator plant integration, and hoop house plantings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage a comprehensive farm plan that integrates agroforestry, rotational grazing, and perennial crop production.
  • Conduct day-to-day farm operations, which include but are not limited to; field preparation, animal management, hoop house operations, planting, harvesting, cultivating, pest management, irrigation, maintaining equipment, tractor operation, managing team, etc.
  • Oversee the care of animals and manage rotational grazing and irrigation systems.
  • Design and implement irrigation systems including both installation and maintenance.
  • Create and implement strategies for disease and pest management utilizing regenerative organic methods.
  • Develop and execute a plan to monitor and improve soil health using sustainable practices of regular soil testing, spreading compost and amendments, no tillage practices, diverse vegetative cover crops, and soil biology.
  • Develop and manage an agroforestry/silvopasture system, including the planting and care of fruit trees, perennials, flowers and nuts.
  • Maintain perennial crops and integrate them into the overall farm plan.
  • Ensure the overall appearance of the farm operation, including barn complex, common areas, and farm fields reflect a well-maintained, organized, aesthetic, working landscape.
  • Support the development and management of the farm’s budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources.
  • Oversee procurement of necessary equipment and supplies.
  • Maintain farm buildings, equipment, and infrastructure.
  • In collaboration with owners, develop a multi-year plan to build ecosystem functions, including improving soil health, incorporating animal and fungal capacities, and expanding perennial plantings.
  • Support expansion of the farm with hiring of appropriate team as well as oversight and management of team members.
  • Exemplify our ethos of the farm as a thriving ecosystem by showcasing sustainable regenerative organic farming practices that inspire and engage visitors, the farming community, local neighbors, and partner organizations.

SKILLS & PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Holistic Management & Planned Grazing: Expertise in implementing and managing sustainable grazing systems.
  • Regenerative Organic Agriculture: Deep knowledge and experience implementing practices that enhance soil health, biodiversity, and land resilience.
  • Heavy Equipment & Tractor Operation: Proficient in operating and maintaining farm machinery.
  • Irrigation Systems: Experience with designing, installing, and managing efficient water distribution systems.
  • Livestock & Animal Care: Experience in managing the health and well-being of livestock, including cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, and chickens.
  • Landscaping & Road Maintenance: Ability to maintain and improve farm roads, trails, and landscapes.
  • Pond & Forestry Management: Skilled in managing water bodies, tree felling, and forest maintenance to enhance the farm ecosystem.
  • Trail Building & Wildlife Habitat Creation: Experience in creating trails and habitats that support wildlife and enhance the farm’s natural environment.
  • Mechanical Skills & Maintenance: Ability to maintain and repair equipment and machinery.
  • Safety & Security: Strong commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the farm, its team. and visitors.
  • Ability to perform moderately strenuous labor, including lifting over 50 lbs and standing for long periods of time.
  • Aptitude for practical, manual work. Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Focused time management skills, efficiency, and consistent attention to detail.
  • Good written and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with a team in accomplishing goals.
