Private ranch in the Wet Mountain Valley is seeking an immediate full-time ranch hand for a cow-calf cattle operation located south of Westcliffe, CO.
The herd ranges between 270-350 head of cattle on hay fields and rangelands. We are currently calving 267 head of range momma cows. Hay fields are flood irrigated in the spring and hay production occurs in late summer and early fall. We operate with a holistic management approach implemented by a team philosophy to care for the water, land, animals and the people. We are looking for a ranch hand that has strong work ethics, integrity, can be a team player by working well with others, a good communicator and have an open mind.
Job duties: Position ranch duties include calving, feeding and breaking ice for herds in winter, fencing, equipment maintenance, irrigating, cutting hay and record-keeping. The ranch hand will work closely with ranch manager and other ranch hands on all aspects of planning, is expected to attend bi-weekly or monthly meetings with the team. Experience with ATV’s and horses is required. Employee is encouraged to bring their own horse or two.
Requirements: Motivated, valid driver’s license with clean record preferred. At least 3 years of experience with large scale (150 head livestock at least), experience in calving operations, including record keeping, branding, sorting and shipping operations and knowledge in the operation and maintenance of 100+ horsepower tractors, windrowers, large baler and tedder rakes.
Preferred qualifications: Range calving, fencing, field irrigation, branding and record-keeping, mechanical skills, experience with welding, fencing, grazing management, and record-keeping. Interest in holistic planned grazing and land management, low stress livestock handling. Only serious motivated candidates with strong work ethics need to apply.
Salary: $40,000 per year, medical benefits, and a partially furnished private home, utilities included.
