Graystone Cattle Company
We are seeking a summer intern for 2017 at our farm/ranch. We are located in the Southeast corner of Iowa. We operate an 80 head registered Red Angus herd along with row crop and hay ground. We exhibit our cattle at the major shows of NWSS, NILE, NAILE, Iowa State Fair, and occasionally the Ft Worth Stock Show. In addition, we operate a sales management company Red Cow Relocators which specializes in the Promotion of Red Angus Genetics and Breeders.
Responsibilities of this internship:
• Care of show string including but not limited to halter breaking, feeding, bathing, grooming, and sticking
• Daily chores for cattle including but not limited to feeding, movement, reproductive, health, and branding
• Maintenance of facilities including but not limited to fencing, building, and grass
• Daily involvement with feed including but not limited to grinding, mixing, and rations.
• Various farm and ranch duties as they arise
• Management of responsibilities without supervision during any absence of the owners
Requirements of internship:
• Prefer applicant to have successfully completed at least one (1) year of college or university education
• Experience working with cattle
• A valid driver’s license
• Provide medical information upon hiring
Applicants should possess:
• Good working knowledge of the beef cattle industry
• Good working knowledge of exhibiting cattle
• Strong communication skills
• Strong work ethic
• Ability to stay on track and complete work assigned
• Ability to work unsupervised
• Ability to manage operation
Applicants MUST attend a face to face final working interview. This is a requirement. We will do our best to schedule working interviews on the weekends so the applicants will not miss any school. Absolutely NO drug or alcohol abuse will be tolerated. Illicit use of drugs or alcohol will be grounds for immediate dismissal.
