Simpson Ranching is seeking a self-motivated, reliable Ranch Hand to join our team in the Alberta Foothills on our 1,000 Head Cattle Ranch and Mixed Grain Farm to assist our team at Calving. Successful candidate will have strong experience in and be willing to participate in all aspects of ranch operations during calving. Minimum 5 years’ experience and clean Class 5 license required. Competitive wage, bonus program, housing, and other benefits available. Your job will be to assist the night shift throughout the night to calve out as many calves as possible with an eye on low death losses.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The night shift begins at 7:00 PM and ends at 7:00 AM

Monitor 4 calving fields for cows needing calving assistance, dealing with first milk for the calf, or mis-mothering pairs.
Bring into the calving barn any problem pairs and monitor their health until the day shift arrives.
Keep complete records of cows that have calved and locations where they are so the day shift can transport them to their new assigned homes.
Feed and bed any animals requiring attention during the night shift.
A good working horse will be considered an asset for your qualification for this job.
Conduct all duties in a safe manner, as per the SRL Environmental, Health and Safety Manual

QUALIFICATIONS:

To be Successful you will have the following qualifications and experience:

5+ years of experience dealing with cows at calving on ranches with large herds.
Cattle health knowledge and strong cattle handling skills are an asset.
Must be willing to put in long hours when required.
Must be reliable and trustworthy with a good old fashion work ethic.
Work environment is focused & safety orientated but also relaxed and positive.
