Fort Worth Horseshoe Club
The Ft. Worth Horseshoe Club is looking to add a full-time Barn Foreman to our staff. We are an Equestrian Club and Boarding Facility and currently have 60+ member-owned horses on the property. This job would work closely with the Barn Manager and include things such as: co-supervising team of 2 – 3 full-time barn workers, managing and assigning daily tasks to barn workers, feeding and watering horses, turning in/out, cleaning and rebedding stalls (as needed), keeping the barn clean and organized, and interacting in a courteous and professional manner with the club members and their guests. The ideal candidate has experience working in a barn setting, is meticulous in their horse care practices, has good communication skills, is reliable, and has some previous supervisor experience. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to expand their experience in Equine Management.
The typical schedule is 5 days per week year-round and likely to include additional night and weekend hours, if needed. We do our best to maintain a 40-45 hour work week however, unforeseen circumstances and emergencies may arise and some days may be longer. Holidays are required but for major holidays we try to put a modified and abbreviated schedule in place with shortened shifts.
This is a live-in position and housing will be provided. Housing is a stand-alone studio apartment with water and electric paid. This is not a riding position. Starting pay is $18/hour.
Job Duties:
- Ensure the daily needs of horses and their care is met
- Manage the daily feeding and watering of horses
- Assist with mucking stalls and paddocks and ensuring horses have clean bedding
- Turning horses in and out of the pasture daily (weather permitting)
- Maintain and organize grain and hay storage areas
- Maintain cleanliness and safety in the barns
- Co-supervise staff of 2-3 barn workers while working alongside them – assign tasks, evaluate performance, and help build the team by providing feedback and/or training, as needed
- Provide basic first aid on a horse, if needed
- Assist Veterinarian, if needed
- Monitor overall health and wellness of horses, and alert Barn Manager to lameness, horse not eating or drinking, or any other signs of distress
- Respectful communication with club members on a daily basis, representing the club in a courteous and professional manner
- Provide general support to the Barn Manager, and assist with inventory of feed and supplies
- Alert Barn Manager of any issues
- Ability to work weekends and holidays, and flexibility to assist with an emergency at night, if needed
Qualifications:
- Strong background in equine health and wellness
- Strong communication/people skills
- Able and willing to perform job duties under extreme weather conditions
- Ability to work hard and lift up to 50 pounds
- Strong work ethic and positive attitude
- Be a self-starter and be able to effectively supervise a small staff in support of the Barn Manager
- Previous supervisor experience is a plus
