Private Horse Farm
A private horse farm is currently seeking an Assistant Coachman to join their industry leading team. The Assistant Coachman will be responsible for assisting the head Coachman in the daily care and training of the horses as well as the maintenance and upkeep of the harness, carriages and stables. We are seeking an energetic and self-motivated individual that is interested in learning to drive horses and has a true passion for horses.
Specific responsibilities of the role include:
• Feed, turnout and care for the daily routine of horses in a full training program
• Prepare horses, the appropriate harness and various carriages for daily training
• Groom, bathe, clip and prepare horses for presentation or competition
• Observe, manage and/or report any issues or needs relative to the horses’ health, welfare, shoeing or behavior
• Execute highest standard of best practices in all aspects of stable management and farm/stable maintenance
• Maintain carriage collection and harnesses in presentation-ready condition
Qualifications:
• Passion for horses and animals
• Experience in caring for and handling horses
• Ability to drive single, pair or Four-in-Hand a plus (or willingness to learn)
• Familiarity with equestrian terms and activities
• Ability to follow instruction
• Ability to perform heavy lifting
• Athletic and physically fit to meet demands of the role
• High standard of professionalism and commitment to excellent service
• Ability to be presentable in various competition and social settings
• Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or willingness to quickly complete training
• Clean motor vehicle driving record required
Requirements:
• Position will be located in Barrington, IL six month out of the year (May 1st through November 30th)
• Position will be located in Ocala, FL six months out of the year (December 1st through May 1st)
• Typical scheduled is Tuesday – Saturday, 8am – 5pm; with ability to be flexible
• Punctuality and reliability are incredibly important
Salary: $20.00 per hour
