Focus Ranch is historically a working cattle / guest ranch but is currently only operating as a yearling cattle ranch. We are located on the Colorado/Wyoming border with land in both states. Steamboat Springs is 50 miles from our location. The yearling cattle (approx. 1,200 head) are primarily run on both private and forest permit land (Medicine Bow National Forest)in Wyoming. We also run a small number of cow/calf pairs. The Little Snake River flows through the property for approximately 3 miles and is world class trout stream. We are looking for a person with ranch experience and skills that are needed in the everyday operation of a ranch, especially solid horseback riding skills required during our cattle season. As the seasons change, so do the jobs. Duties vary at different times of the year and can include operation of equipment, facility maintenance, fencing, irrigation, cooking, cleaning, snow removal with shovel or blower, feeding horses and cows. If employed only for the spring and summer most of the work will be riding, helping with cattle and helping out where needed. A variety of skills and job experiences are a plus. There is a crew of about 5-6 from spring into fall and during the late fall and winter, usually only a ranch worker along with the owners who live here full time.
This position includes housing provided onsite and meals. Other perks include high speed internet, laundry facilities and satellite tv.
Days off: 1 day during the peak cattle season and if year round, 1 and 1/2 per week during the cold months
Vacation time and holidays negotiable if year round employment
No housing available for families.
No pets allowed.
No smoking.
Position: Flexible starting date of May 1st 2025 and flexible ending date depending if seasonal or year round
Requirements:
- Able to work independently or with a team.
- Must be 21 yrs of age or older
- Valid Drivers License
- Able to move / lift / maneuver up to 50 lbs.
In summary, we are looking for an individual wanting a ranch life and who has the necessary skills to perform the daily duties as the seasons change. Must work well with others, be physically able to perform the job and able to live in a somewhat remote setting. Towns are from 30 to 50 miles away. Must have your own vehicle (4wd recommended). Must have reliable work references. Important to have familiarity with living in a snowy environment if long term employment. Must be comfortable working independently for part of the year.
