Ranch Hand Position available
Where: It is a private 640 acre high mountain ranch in SW Colorado. The Ranch sits in an 8200’ basin, surrounded by 12,000’+ peaks. It is surrounded by National Forest, and is within walking distance of a large Wilderness Area. There is one river and one roaring creek that run through the property year round. Abundant large game as well as small game and fowl occupy the Ranch
What: The Ranch is owned by a private family that is here periodically throughout the year. While it is a working ranch our primary job is to provide and maintain the Ranch for the owners and their guests. We make about 140 tons of hay, and pasture about 60-70 mother cows spring thru fall. We maintain trails in the National Forest for the owners and our 6-8 horses. We have an aggressive forestry operation that produces firewood.
When: April thru November is our main work season. June thru August is also an option for those who may still be in college.
Who: We have ONE position open for the 2025 season. Ideally we are looking for someone with ranch/farm experience. Some, or extensive knowledge and experience in the following areas would be advantageous: fencing, irrigation, sawer, tractor and equipment operation, horsemanship, mechanical knowledge, carpentry, landscape and residential maintenance. We provide housing, utilities, and Starlink in a new construction shared bunkhouse. The above listed experience is not required but it will be helpful. We are mainly looking for someone who is highly motivated and has a strong desire to learn and do this type of work. Applicants must not have substance abuse issues, and be able to pass a background check.
