Small family with longstanding ties to Telluride is seeking a ranch manager.
The role is physically demanding and requires significant daily physical activity in the oversight and execution of ranch activities including irrigation, fence repair, landscaping, and light property management support. The ranch does not manage its own cattle but leases land to grazing operators from June until October each year.
The ideal candidate should be a self-starter with a passion for the outdoors, high integrity, adaptability, and a focus on safety and teamwork. The position will report directly to the Owner Representative and work closely with family and their property management team in Telluride.
Duties
Tasks may include but are not limited to:
Irrigation Systems:
- Understand the water rights and usage associated with High Meadow.
- Maintain and regulate ditch systems that run throughout the ranch.
Fence Repair:
- Have a familiarity of the limitations of the conservation easement that High Meadow operates under.
- Serve as primary point of contact with companies that lease the land to run cattle.
- Maintain, repair, and monitor fencing systems.
Landscaping and Equipment Management:
- Maintenance of exterior landscapes on property which will include mowing lawns, managing blow downs on property, and weed removal.
- Snow removal.
- Chopping firewood.
- Maintain all machinery and shop equipment including piston bully, snowmobiles, loader, etc. including attachments. Set up vendor appointments and supervise vendors. Transport machinery to appropriate vendor as needed.
- Manage vehicle and equipment maintenance schedules.
Property Management Support:
- Verify all work completed by vendors and approve invoices in conjunction with Owner Representative.
- Assist with special projects and residential construction projects as requested
- Project management of any small repair projects; manage and supervise related contractors
- Assist Property Managers with opening and closing of property and in-residence readiness whenever employers or guests of employers are in town.
- Property maintenance such as changing trash removal, light bulbs, moving and cleaning deck furniture, exterior fixture cleaning, washing windows, maintaining gutters and outside sweeping as needed.
- Preventative property maintenance such as cleaning/lubrication of hinges, locks, and other mechanical items, as scheduled.
- Preventative maintenance to two residences including calking, grouting, painting, etc.
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks
- Demonstrated experience with fencing, irrigation systems, and heavy machinery operation.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Light contracting or carpentry experience is a plus.
- Ability to prioritize a diversified workload.
- Good judgment, tact and initiative to make independent decisions when necessary.
- Discretion in handling confidential material is required.
- Must be able to pass a comprehensive background check.
- References required
- Driver’s license required.
- Hunting experience preferred.
