Seeking an individual or couple to professionally manage a 258-acre start-up high-fence exotic game and cattle ranch in Liberty Hill, TX.

Job Duties

Animal Care

  • Manage the feeding and care of all animal breeds, including shots.
  • Animal management (counts, health, game cameras, game release), animal sourcing, water well monitoring, purchasing/arranging for feed
  • Daily feeding and watering of horses, cattle and exotics as needed.
  • Manage all aspects of our animal breeding production. Manage feeding and breeding programs. Administer vaccines, fly control, and dewormer.
  • Penning, loading and hauling of animals.
  • Breed pens, cross fencing and gene tree management

Land Care

  • Mowing and road maintenance
  • Brush removal, firewood cutting, tree trimming
  • Maintain grounds, fences and trails.
  • Improve pasture via brush control, shredding, plowing, seeding, and invasive plant control
  • Develop forage and food plots as necessary for appropriate animals
  • Maintain water tanks, troughs and water lines

Maintenance and Equipment

  • Maintaining feeders/blinds (timers, motors, relocating), high fence maintenance (monitor, repair, weed control)
  • Maintenance of farm equipment, scheduling/overseeing any contract repairs
  • Manage the maintenance of home on the property, water well systems, plumbing, general repair and maintenance and lawn care
  • Maintain heavy equipment and use for various projects

General

  • Duties may include managing of any additional ranch workers
  • Any other items requested by Employer
  • Assist owner with the coordination of construction of buildings and/or ranch improvement projects with contractors
  • Manage temporary labor and subcontractors as needed
  • Work with the owners on a weekly basis and generate reports as needed

Requirements

Animals

  • Applicants must possess prior experience with ranch and animal management
  • Exotic animal management and hunting knowledge strongly preferred
  • Cattle feeding and handling experience required
  • Must be able to manage cattle and grass through rotational grazing. Need to be able to catch and tag baby calves. Must be self-motivated.
  • Ability to market cattle and exotics
  • Ability to grade cattle on quality and score whitetail and exotics
  • Identify issues (sickness, injuries, or nutritional issues)
  • Monitor health of all animals and inform employer if there are any health concerns.
  • Maintain detailed cattle records and establish processes
  • Learn, create and manage all aspects of a direct to consumer beef program. Duties include marketing, sales, shipping, storage, and hauling cattle to the processor.
  • Learn to work with veterinarians and track gene management
  • Prior equine experience and a kind hand with animals

Land Care

  • Operational knowledge of standard ranch and farming equipment.
  • Must understand soil types, testing and reviving methods
  • Must be willing to do all jobs regardless of physical demand
  • Understanding of seasonality and timing for planting efforts

Maintenance

  • Knowledge and experience with the operation and maintenance of farm and ranch equipment and vehicles ( i.e. tractor, skid steer, ATV’s, chainsaw, trailers, pickups, etc)
  • Mechanical skills a plus (Diesel engines, Small Engines, Polaris upkeep/repairs, etc.)
  • Operate and maintain skid steer, tractors, UTVs, ATVs, and chainsaws. Welding experience is a plus

General

  • Physically able to perform general ranch work in all types of weather. Most work is to be performed by the Ranch Manager his or herself.
  • Able to work on weekends
  • Must be trustworthy, able to work independently, and dependable as well as physically capable of doing ranch work (i.e. able to lift 75 lbs).
  • Must have good communications skills and a great attitude
  • Applicants must provide references, pass a full background check, be legally authorized to work in the US, have a clean driving record, be non-smoking, drug-free and English speaking (Chewing tobacco and Vaping in designated areas OK)
  • Bachelor degree in animal science or ranch management, or extensive field experience
  • Basic Computer Skills (Excel, Word, Gmail, Google calendar, CattleMax software or the like)
  • Dependable, punctual, good character, sound decision making skills, mindfulness and self-motivated.
  • Able to work 50-60 hours a week including weekend requirements
  • Must be able to follow instructions and communicate effectively with ranch owner via text messages. Proactive communication and communication accountability is the job of the Ranch Manager.
  • Must be able highly motivated, honest and able to complete projects with limited or no direct supervision. Will require manual labor on regular basis.

Compensation

  • Ranch truck provided
  • Living quarters on the property.
  • Salary: $70k – $80k plus performance-based bonuses. Possible additional consideration for spouse teams, based on experience.
