Whisper's Sanctuary
If you have horse care experience, an RV, a little time to fill and an urge to explore SE Arizona,….come to our small nonprofit equine sanctuary in the Huachucas.
Bring your self contained RV or LQ horse trailer and enjoy a private 50 AMP FHU site, utilities, great WiFi and free laundry facilities.
Our quiet and remote location nestles up against the Huachuca Mountains at 5,200 ft elevation. The Arizona Trail, Sonoita wineries, Fort Huachuca, Sierra Vista and Parker Canyon Lake are all just a short drive away AND the historic towns of Tombstone, Tucson, Nogales, Bisbee and Patagonia are easy day tripping distance.
Spend time with rescued horses, mustangs, mules and donkeys…..most of whom were rescued from kill pens. Some are still pretty wary of people, but most enjoy whatever love and attention they can get.
The work is physical, but not difficult…..if you can walk uphill, shovel poop, push a full wheelbarrow, carry small feed buckets, move 80 pound bags of feed and muscle 100 pound bales of hay into the feed wagon ….and recognize when a horse is injured or experiencing discomfort….you’re golden! If you can safely drive a tractor and grade paddocks, or have experience administering equine first aid, even better! You just need to be honest with yourself and with us. Are you physically fit enough to do the work and reliable enough for the animals to depend on?
Manure removal and feeding happen in the early morning and later afternoon. It’s not a glamorous job, or an income producing job….but it is rewarding. Spend your vacation with us, stay a month, or for an entire season, depending on your needs and schedule. Returning snowbirds are always welcome and our winters here are very mild.
Just 15 hours a week of sanctuary work required for your site, utilities and wifi for a couple. There is no pay involved.
Long or short term available
Well behaved pets welcome.
Personal horses possible for the right folks.
