Description: Looking for an experienced cook for a large multi-generational family compound in the North woods of Wisconsin during the spring/summer of 2024. Nightly family dinners will range from 15 people – 30 people.

Position Overview:

  • Develop a healthy, fresh, and consistent menu and cook dinner 5 nights each week (Tues. – Sat.) and occasional to-go lunches. During three holiday weekends a Sun. night meal will be added.
  • Maintaining communication throughout summer to adjust menus, quality and/or sources of ingredients.
  • Manage a small wait staff of between 3 – 5 people.
  • May 20, 2024 to Sept 14, 2024
  • Private house provided and competitive pay offered.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Work with family point person to develop a menu of 10-15 dinners that are adaptable to gluten-free or vegetarian needs. Cook will keep all menus in Chez Freda and assumes responsibilities for ensuring spices and basic ingredients are stocked.
  • Distribute a menu for the upcoming week on Sunday evening to family point person. Cook will access RSVP count in SignUp Genius
  • Prepare 4-5 dinners each week (Tues. – Sat.) based on menu plan. Picnics will be planned at least two weeks in advance.
  • All meals will be prepared in a dining house with large industrial-style kitchen or prepared to go for picnic style dinners.
  • To-go meals for family members will be packaged and available for pick up at time planned with person placing order.
  • Purchase groceries at local Piggly Wiggly (30 minute drive) and CostCo. Gas reimbursement for shopping will be paid at 58.5 cents per mile (IRS rate).
  • Steak and ground beef provided by on-property cattle will be stored in freezer after processing. Cook to keep track of inventory and supplement as needed.
  • Direct wait staff with the following 1) helping with food prep, 2) delivering food hot/cold, and 3) clearing tables 4) and cleaning dishes throughout the night (and additional list of housekeeping duties provided to wait staff).
  • Adjust recipes and menu to incorporate fresh vegetables from on-site garden or local sources when seasonally available.
  • Maintain wine inventory and update family point person when inventory is low.
  • Manage /order additional kitchen items as needed (for example to-go boxes, special ingredients, staff timesheets, appliance maintenance, etc.) in partnership with family point person.
