Rifle Creek Ranch, LLC
We have a small ranch in Northern New Mexico. I am a 100% Disabled Vet and my wife is a retired school teacher. I have owned horses for 56 years (I am a Cutting Horse guy) If you came here 12-plus years ago you’d see 15-16 horses and 25-30 cows. I only have 2 horses these days and we have a very small herd of Mini Zebu Cattle along with 2 mini Donkeys, 4 dogs (2 Livestock guardian dogs, 1 Red Healer, and 1 Siberian Husky), And a bunch of barn cats. My wife is a city gal turned country after meeting me 14 years ago… She has transitioned fairly well I’d have to say. We only live 8 miles north of town. And 70 minutes to the Big City. 🙂 🙂
We are looking for a person or couple who is looking for a long-term opportunity to help us maintain our property so we can continue to stay here. We like it here and do not want to leave but keeping the place in good working order, neat and tidy, and completing projects is getting tougher these days. We are not helpless by any means, but we do need help.
Responsibilities would include the day-to-day of any small ranch with animals… Pasture and grass management including weed spraying or mowing as needed. Yard maintenance (we have lots of pine needles and pine cones) to include watering, mowing, and weed eating, Building Maintenance, Equipment maintenance, Fence maintenance, Arena, Free-walker, and Cattle Pen maintenance. Inside the house – helping Anne to keep the place clean, including vacuuming, dusting, bathrooms, and kitchen, and helping her in the Garden and small orchard during spring, summer & fall. New projects like building new loafing sheds, Building new fences.
Skills that would be very helpful:
- Carpentry
- Welding
- Equipment operating and maintenance– Tractors & attachments, Trucks, Backhoes, etc.
- Care of Horses
- Care of Cattle
- General Building Maintenance
- Basic Mechanic skills
- Wood cutting – we heat our home with a wood-burning stove
If you have a particular skill you are not up to speed on I can teach you or we can send you to school to learn it but most of these skills are needed now.
We can offer a small, but fair monthly salary and Temporary living quarters while we build something permanent. That will be one of your major projects. Along with beef for the freezer (we have 2 Momma Charolais, they are out on a friend’s ranch) and fresh veggies from the garden each year. Along with room for a couple of personal horses and a well-behaved dog. We are also motivated to put together a very good retirement package for the right person/ couple who stays with us long term rewarding them for their loyalty! The key here is to stay long-term. We are not looking for short-term or temporary help.
We do not tolerate drugs, smoking, or excessive drinking. We will do background checks as well.
If this sounds like something up your alley then by all means please apply.
TO APPLY:
Please, versus calling or texting, e-mail your resume and a brief description of why you think you are a good fit for our opportunity. Also, some photos to show us who you are would be great.
Thanks!!
Bob & Anne
