Position Overview: As the Ranch Manager you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations and management of the ranch. Your primary focus will be on the care of various exotic animal species. You will ensure the overall health and well-being of the animals, maintain accurate records, manage staff, and oversee various aspects of the ranch’s activities such as breeding needs, darting and transport of animals as needed, bottle feeding and pen management.
Responsibilities:
Animal Care and Health:
- Oversee the care, feeding, and general health of all exotic animal species on the ranch.
- Develop and implement animal care protocols, including feeding schedules, enrichment programs, and veterinary care.
- Perform daily pen checks to ensure animal safety, secure fencing, and identify any potential issues or hazards.
- When necessary, assist with darting and safe transportation of animals for medical procedures, habitat adjustments, or relocation efforts.
- Monitor and maintain animal enclosures, ensuring cleanliness, proper shelter, and adequate space.
- Coordinate with veterinarians for routine check-ups, vaccinations, and medical treatments.
- Maintain accurate records (including pedigrees, birth records, and genetic information.
- Ensure the well-being of young animals in the bottle-feeding program. Administer bottle feedings in accordance with established protocols and schedules.
Staff Management and Training:
- Recruit, train, and supervise a team of ranch staff.
- Assign tasks and responsibilities to staff members, ensuring efficient daily operations.
- Provide guidance and support to staff members, promoting a positive and productive work
- Educate bottle feeders on proper feeding techniques, animal behavior, and safety protocols.
- Provide ongoing training and support to ensure the team’s competence and efficiency.
Record Keeping and Documentation:
- Maintain accurate records of all animal-related activities, including births, deaths, and medical treatments.
- Monitor and update animal inventory, tracking population numbers and demographic data.
- Generate reports on animal health, breeding performance, and overall ranch operations as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of bottle-feeding activities, including feeding times, quantities, and observations.
Ranch Maintenance and Security:
- Oversee maintenance and repair tasks on the ranch, including infrastructure, fencing, and equipment.
- Implement security measures to prevent unauthorized access and protect animal welfare.
- Coordinate with contractors and service providers as needed.
Pen Checks and Animal Safety:
- Conduct regular pen checks to ensure the safety and security of animals.
- Ensure proper fencing, shelter, and cleanliness of animal enclosures.
- Identify and address any potential hazards or issues that may impact animal welfare.
Perks and Compensation:
- Housing: For candidates requiring relocation, on-site housing options are available, ensuring your proximity to the animals you care for.
- Pay Range: $55,000 – $60,000, commensurate with your experience and expertise.
