LOCATION SUMMARY

Vermejo, a Ted Turner Reserve, located in northern New Mexico and southern Colorado, spans over 550,000 acres, making it the largest Ted Turner Reserves vacation property. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Hunt Manager reports to the General Manager of Vermejo, a Ted Turner Reserve (TTR) and oversees the hunting programs at Vermejo. This position ensures that the TTR and Turner Ranch Outfitting (TRO) brands are well aligned with the mission of the properties to serve as a model of conservation management, and TRO’s mission to connect people with nature by hunting for the purpose of feeding humanity healthy and organic protein while supporting conservation that cares for the delicate balance of the ecosystem.

The Hunt Manager oversees the management and leadership of hunt operations at Vermejo in Raton, New Mexico for TRO. The successful employee will have a strong commitment to conservation. This employee is committed to wildlife as a public trust resource, hunts that supports sustainable wildlife populations, and adheres to science-based wildlife management.

As a Hunt Manager, the job responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Ensure all sales and marketing efforts are consistent with vision, mission, and values of the TRO and TTR organizations.
  • Oversee and coordinate wildlife harvest levels and user days on available seasons, monitor and track ranch activity, and handle lease requests with ranch management, Natural Resources Manager of Vermejo and New Mexico Game and Fish.
  • Develop extensive networking relationships within the professional hunting community as the Company shares clientele with outfitters in many states and countries.
  • Review and propose all potential commercial hunting opportunities for Vermejo.
  • Learn, understand, support, and execute the TTR Hospitality Standard levels of service and implement those in the TRO program.
  • Sell, schedule, market, book, and capture/track receivables for all commercial hunts offered under the TRO brand.
  • Handle the invoice process for all hunt guests.
  • Respond to email and phone calls in a timely manner.
  • Oversees the hiring, supervision, and training of Vermejo Hunt Guides and Game Barn Coordinator. Ensure that all staff are properly licensed, perform to the established guest service standards and operate within all applicable state and federal laws.
  • Manage Guide-in-Training program.
  • Oversee the operation of the Game Barn during hunt season.
  • Oversee and manage all employee, donation, and charity hunts.
  • Oversee harvest reports and biological samples from Vermejo that are collected by all Guides in accordance with the direction of the Vermejo Natural Resource Department.
  • Conduct safety and welcome sessions for all Hunters and Guides.
  • Actively participate in the Manager-on-Duty program at Vermejo.
  • Partner with the TTR Marketing team to help manage the marketing for the Vermejo hunt program.
  • Coordinate and the hunting shows for marketing, including the DSC show in Dallas.
  • Guide hunts as needed and ensure that adequate staffing is achieved during hunting season.
  • Partner with Hospitality Management and the Activities Director to guide leisure activities during months that hunts are not scheduled.
  • Work with Company Biologists to maintain positive working relationships with New Mexico State Game and Fish and Parks and Wildlife divisions.
  • Prepare the annual hunting budgets, revenue projections and expense budgets for Vermejo, with the assistance of the Natural Resources and Wildlife Divisions who provide infrastructure input related to wildlife management.
  • Coordinate with Guides for scouting, training, planning, and preparing hunts and hunt routes.
  • Act as a strategic thought partner for Company and resort leaders; create compelling business cases to promote growth from the sales, marketing, and communications efforts.
  • Identify market needs and engage with executive management teams to evaluate future opportunities.
  • Monitor competitor’s sales, marketing, and revenue management activities to inform and uncover opportunities for the TRO portfolio of reserves and brands.
  • All other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has supervisory responsibilities. Direct report relationships include Vermejo Hunt Guides and Game Barn Coordinator.

ACCOMMODATIONS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

10+ years of experience in the hunting industry. Must possess knowledge of experiential and education-based hunting practices.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

The employee must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. The employee must be able to write routine reports and correspondence. Fluency in English is required. Second language preferred, but not required.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

The employee must be able to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. The employee must be able to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY

The employee must be able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. The employee must be able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. The employee must be able to think quickly and adapt to changing situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

The employee must possess a valid Driver’s License or be able to obtain one within 30 days of employment. The employee’s driving record must meet the standards and requirements of the Company and the Company’s insurance carrier.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

  • The employee must adhere to Company and property policies and procedures which are included in the Company’s Employee Handbook.
  • The employee must present documentation establishing both identity and employment authorization within three days of hire, pursuant to federal law.
  • The candidate may be subject to undergo pre-employment drug test, (after offer is given but before applicant has commenced work). Random drug tests are given throughout the year.
