Job Description: Ranch Hand
The calm Ranch Hand is responsible for general upkeep of the property and buildings, cleanliness, organization, and readiness.
General Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Maintaining meticulous standards and daily cleaning throughout the property according to the cleaning lists, calendars, and family preferences
- Approved shopping and errands as needed
- Daily management of ranch supplies; restock/dispose to maintain adequate levels
- Commitment to maintaining rigorous organization standards
- Supply and inventory management (e.g., household, cleaning, laundry, food, supplies)
- Vendor interfacing and supervision as needed
- Meal/bar service as needed
- Event set up and break down
Main job tasks, duties, and responsibilities:
- Daily survey of ranch to make sure all areas are in good condition and guest ready
- Working knowledge of lightweight ranch equipment and hand tools
- Dexterity (repair fences, equipment, change vehicle tire, and more)
- General landscaping including a kitchen garden with a detailed view to weed and brush control, maintain/fix irrigation lines, and leaf removal
- Work with manager to develop and implement a weed and brush control plan
- Keep building gutters free of debris
- Handle family dogs (e.g., feeding, bathing, walking, clean up), as requested
- Potential for livestock handling (e.g., bees, chickens, aquarium/goldfish, fishpond)
- Check wells/water supply
- Help prepare house/buildings for anticipated weather
- Able to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions
- Use initiative to suggest projects to improve processes
- Tidy up garages (indoor and outdoor) and exterior common areas allowing for guest activity
- Pest control
- Restock supplies such as soft drinks, bottled water in assigned areas according to prescribed layout
- Swimming pool and spa maintenance
- Detail clean, stock, and organize guest amenities (e.g. bicycles, helmets, vehicles) and related guest supplies
- Check features/amenities are in working order; immediately report issues to supervisor
- Sweep, scrub, mop, and polish garage and patio floors, exterior doors/windows/frames and coverings, and fencing/gates in guest areas with appropriate products
- Support during guest visits (e.g., exterior cleaning/refresh, help with luggage, airport runs, approved errands)
- Spot shampoo/clean carpets, rugs, and upholstery with surface-appropriate products
- Advise supervisor if professional or specialized cleaning is required
- General handyperson (e.g., change light bulbs, put basic equipment together, assemble shelves, chop firewood)
- Clean or polish exterior metal fixtures/fittings with surface-appropriate products
- Dust exterior furniture, cabinets, and surfaces with care
- Wipe down exterior glass surfaces with surface-appropriate products
- Clean exterior doorknobs, windows, windowsills, screens, and door handles throughout domestic property
- Empty rubbish/recycle bins daily; clean bins as needed
- Dispose of trash, recycling, and compostable goods in a sanitary manner
- Detail cleaning of ranch vehicles, recreational vehicles, and cycles using appropriate products
- Routine vehicle maintenance (e.g., check/monitor fluid levels, change tire, prep for guests)
- Maintain organized storage areas/cabinets/drawers to include checking expiration dates
- Inform supervisor of guest queries and requests
- Maintain all cleaning equipment and materials in a safe, sanitary, and organized working condition
- Monitor and report necessary damage, domestic repairs/replacements, maintenance issues, and/or safety hazards
- Respond to requests for housekeeping problems such as spills, broken glass
- Support/assist Housekeeper as she inspects/turns mattresses and moves furniture regularly following household calendars
- Sort mail and packages following training for guests vs ranch supplies
Requirements of the job, to include all above points:
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion at all time
- Ability to retain ALL information at home in the strictest of confidence and in accordance with requirements of Confidentiality & Non-disclosure Agreement
- Valid driver’s license/clean driving record
- Own vehicle with appropriate insurance
- No significant litigation, driving infractions, or other legal violations
- Must be able to pass background check
- Semi-Flexible schedule, generally Monday-Friday; must be available on evenings, weekends, and holidays during guest visits
- Maintain a positive attitude towards Principals, guests, and visitors
- Perform regularly scheduled tasks to maintain overall wellness of the house according to household calendar
- Ability to multi-task

Most ranch hand jobs in a involve demanding physical tasks that require certain physical abilities including but not limited to:
- Able to lift, push, pull and carry a minimum weight of approximately 50 lbs.
- Able to stand for long periods of time
- Able to kneel, bend, and crawl
- Able to squat and crouch
- Able to work in confined spaces
- Able to tolerate exposure to dust and cleaning chemicals
- Able to climb a ladder and work safely from a height
