Position Overview
Hāna Ranch is seeking an experienced Trail Ride Program Supervisor to support the Ranch Manager in the development, implementation, and operations a new trail ride and equestrian program. This program will involve working with local resorts and tour group operators, providing quality horse experiences with their guests, as well as other tourists types, and local community organizations. The position will be responsible for the daily supervision and completion of all tasks and processes associated with the trail ride program operations, including: customer interface and scheduling rides, greeting guests and ensuring that pre ride safety and administrative processes are completed, leading rides and post ride activities, the ongoing maintenance and upkeep of equestrian facilities, animals, tack and other program equipment. The Trail Ride Program Supervisor will also support the Ranch Manager in the coordination of other Hana Ranch staff to support trail ride operations and with the general health, safety and upkeep of the Ranch’s horse herd. The Trail Ride Program Supervisor reports directly to the Ranch Manager and will also work with other Hana Ranch staff from time to time to support the other ranch operations. The Trail Ride Program Supervisor should have a strong team mindset and a clear sense of organization and attention to detail.
Primary Duties
Trail Ride Operations
- Maintains and cares for all horses allocated to trail ride program. Including the coordination around all shoeing, scheduling of routine veterinarian checkups, daily feed, water, and any pasture movements
- Supports the Ranch Manager in the assessment of horses that may be used for the Trial Ride Program and leads the training of horses that are participating in the Trail Ride Program
- Maintains all tack, machinery, tools, and equipment used to run trail ride program and the upkeep and organization of all facilities used for program
- Manages all customer service including: reservations and inquiries, calendar of scheduled rides, processing payments, pre reservation guest logistics, and associated administration
- Welcomes guests to ranch and leads the setup, ride and clean up after each trail ride event
- Works with Office Manager to complete all administrative processes associated with the Trial Ride Program, including: ensuring guest waivers are signed and filed, payment processing for rides, maintaining vendor accounts with suppliers, and reviewing and submitting invoices
- Coordinates support from other ranch team members to help lead rides when needed
- Maintains communications with other tourism and hospitality operating partners and supports contract development and other administrative processes so that event booking and scheduling, and payment processing run smoothly
- Develops and runs the animal welfare program and the general safety program for all staff members who help support trail rides and for all guests who participate in rides
General Ranch Operations Responsibilities
- Supports the Livestock Operations team from time-to-time with daily tasks, herd movements, cattle sorting, and other activities
- Operates ranch vehicles and support hauling of supplies, for general ranch use
- Supports the Orchard Operations from time to time with daily tasks, harvesting produce, and ongoing maintenance of trees
Candidate Qualifications
- One or more years of Horse Program Development and/or Trail Ride Operations experience
- Some experience in work both youth and adult equestrian programs
- Knowledge of horse care and maintenance and of training horses for the program
- Shows professionalism and poise when dealing with guests, customers and co-workers
- Proficient verbal, phone, and written communication skills
- Detail-oriented and works with a high degree of accuracy
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage a small team of people
- Able to lift and carry #50 bags of feed
- Ability to work weekends and evenings from time to time
- Maintains a valid Driver’s License
- Maintains reliable transportation to and from the ranch headquarters
- Minimum of two professional references
