Private Small Ranch
Farm/ranch hand wanted on smaller ranch in Montana, north of Lewistown. We raise cattle and wheat and do our own dryland haying. This is a small-scale operation and we use older equipment. We are seeking an “all around” farm hand.
Work varies by season, and can include but is not limited to: haying, maintenance of buildings and equipment, seeding, spraying, fencing, moving and checking cows by horseback, calving, banding and tagging calves, harvesting grain, yard work, mowing, cleaning barns and outbuildings, spreading manure, and other general ranch chores.
Some work, such as moving and checking cattle and some fencing, will be done by horseback, so basic riding ability is strongly preferred. However, riding is only a small part of the job, and you will also need to be willing to do menial tasks. This isn’t strictly a cowboy job.
This is neither an internship nor management position. Recent experience in farming and ranching is preferred, but there will also be menial and/or entry-level work. The ideal candidate will be responsible and trustworthy, have a good attitude, and be willing to take direction and work alone or with others.
The ranch is a drug, alcohol, and tobacco free workplace. Wages are negotiable and depend on experience. Resume, references, and a valid and insurable driver’s license are required.
