Kiani Preserve
Ranch Hand wanted to assist as a member of a small team team with the upkeep, improvement and development of a privately owned ranch in the Santa Ynez Valley, 30 miles North of Santa Barbara, 30 miles South of Santa Maria. Several full-time positions available.
Small herd of 100+/- cows, small group of trail horses, chickens and other farm animals.
Ideal candidate should be hard-working, dependable, honest, trustworthy and flexible. Attitude is as important as experience. We will teach someone who is willing and able to learn.
Preference will be given to candidates who are mechanically inclined and have a background and skillset working with a wide variety of tools, power tools, landscape maintenance tools, machinery and farming equipment. Experience servicing vehicles, maintaining machinery and welding is a plus.
Preference will be given to candidates who have the knowledge to feed and maintain cows, horses, goats, dogs and other animals on a ranch/farm, without supervision. The ability to butcher is also desirable.
Preference will be given to candidates who have prior experience working on a ranch or farm and have knowledge of ranch systems, farming and animals. Horse and livestock skills are a plus.
This position is right for you if you have both grit and grace. Ranch Hands are required to perform a wide variety of general ranch work and animal care as well as have an eye for detail and provide first class service to ranch owner, owner’s family and ranch guests.
Your duties will vary at different times, depending on need and depending on your skill set. Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Animal Care – Keeping all ranch animals happy and healthy. Daily feeding and care, cleaning and doctoring.
- Keeping animal pens, stalls and coops, clean, sanitary, healthy, and presentable.
- Landscape Maintenance, tree trimming, mowing and general upkeep.
- Handyman – plumbing, electrical, welding, concrete and general carpentry and repair work. Building maintenance. Equipment maintenance.
- Pool and spa Maintenance.
- Fencing – New construction of barbed wire and wood fencing as well maintenance of existing fencing.
- Water Management – Maintenance of water systems including wells, cisterns, water lines, irrigation, sprinkler, water storage tanks, troughs and water systems for animals.
- Operate and maintain machinery, tractor, landscape machinery, tools, and riding mower.
- Livestock – checking, sorting, herding, branding, tagging, calving, weaning, doctoring, preparing for sale or slaughter.
- Drive to town to purchase supplies.
- Tend to the garden
- Assist with farming and hay production.
- Any and all other ranch duties as needed
Must be a self-starter and good at prioritizing one’s schedule and tasks. Must be willing to be flexible with work schedule including weekends.
Must love animals, and be compassionate and empathetic towards animals and people.
Must be flexible with work schedule which may include weekends. We try to stick to 8 hours per day but with occasional overtime, night work is very rare. Background check will be run.
