Cordero Creek Ranch
Currently looking for a Ranch Manager for commercial sheep operation located in central Oklahoma. The right candidate will be responsible for the operations of a commercial livestock enterprise including but not limited to the following:
- Provide input and execute on the ranch strategy, plans and goals
- Manage the flock in accordance with Global Animal Partnership standards insuring the overall health and wellbeing of the livestock
- Be open minded to regenerative farming and ranching practices
- Provide reporting as may be required for record keeping and analysis of overall benefit, cost effectiveness, animal health, animal losses etc.
- Maintain operating cost records and identify areas for savings
- Direct and manage ranch hands and maintain records for employees
- Develop an accelerated breeding program targeting 3 gestations within 2 years and meet target birthing goals
- Implement practices to ensure safe lambing
- Maintain parasite controls and vaccination protocols to ensure overall health
Day to day activities will include:
- Managing Ranch Hands
- Managing pasture rotation program
- Herding livestock
- Supplemental feed and water to animals based on seasonal requirements
- Examining animals to detect diseases and injuries and treating accordingly
- Ear tagging animals
- Sorting animals, loading/unloading animals
- Feeding and caring for livestock guard dogs
- Maintain and repair ranch equipment-trucks, tractors, atvs
- Coordinate custom cutters for winter hay
- Inspect, repair and build fences and gates (barbed wire and high tensile electric)
- Maintaining buildings and structures
- Feed and care for livestock guard dogs
This is a hands-on position that will require the manager to perform ranch operations daily. The proper candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Ability to work independently with little or no supervision
- Strong work ethic
- Ability to collaborate on and execute the strategy, plans and goals of the ranch
- Consistently work in all weather environments
- Capable of operating all types of ranch equipment
- Previous ranch experience with a sheep operation, specifically lambing
- Possess a valid driver’s license with clean driving record
- Veterinarian experience a plus
